Go to Control Panel, click small icon on view by on the right upper corner than click on "Notification Area Icons", on the opening windows chose "show only notification" and un-tick "always show.." at the bottom.

This doesnt seem to matter as i have it to always show and when nothings plugged in it doesnt show an icon....let alone one with a series of dots in it and no device name

OP:

read this:

http://superuser.com/questions/501360/safely-remove-hardware-icon-in-windows-8

Its the first thing i found that seemed similar when i googled it :)

Simplest fix: install windows 7 :)

it seems that you just plug the device out w/o safe mode confirmation. please plug in a usb and run registry clean CCleaner etc, then try again. it should work.

I also clean the registry with CCleaner, but not remove the icon from the taskbar! :(

reboot it, and also try other options e.g. physically disconnect all usb, restart, disable

I did but the problem was not solved: (

actually i had that issue with windows 7 i downloaded usb safe remove and keep that icon live all the time...way more stuff it can do compared to the windows one and you can also easily give mobile drives cards and usb sticks a permanent drive letter and that really comes in handy

edit,,,usb safely remove can be found here on nsane home page.... system.... then other system tools

I do not know why the problem occurs to me that it is very hard to find a solution!
