jalaffa
Winamp is an audio player that can handle audio CDs, MP3 audio files, and streaming audio broadcasts. It combines extensive functionality with an intuitive interface. Winamp features a playlist editor and a 10-band graphic equalizer with user-definable presets that can automatically load specific files. It also includes Windows Media Technology 4.0 input/output support and the industry-standard Fraunhofer MP3 decoder. This download no longer includes VIS/DSP plug-ins; you can download them separately. Thanks to teodor12 for the update.Download

Siddharta
I don't think this will be the end of WinampSee this notice too:WINAMP 5.66 WILL KEEP RUNNING ON YOUR PC AS IT DID LAST YEARS (actually, BETTER, and it probably will for at least YEARS more).NOBODY SAYS YOU SHOULD STOP USING WINAMP ON 20/12/2013!AND YES, YOU STILL CAN INSTALL DESKTOP WINAMP AFTER THAT DATE IF YOU HAVE THE INSTALLER.It means that playing music, managing your library, updating tags (now even in mass form directly from the Playlist editor!) or managing your iPod / Android / Mp5 player can still be done like if nothing ever happened.================================================================================================So, what remains (and can still be created / fixed):+ Possible new fixes (in various forms)+ Gracenote database recognition (with no lifetime guarantee)+ Crash reporter in Winamp 5.66 (in case of emergency)+ New Plugins and plugins updates (will be uploaded in other sites)+ Skins (newer and updates if needed)+ SDK updates (50% chances to stay)+ Ability to install Winamp in newer machinesWhat is lost - Online services (like Now playing, MoodAgent, etc). The good thing about it is that now people can use / create custom services to use with it, like Broser Pro or Reader already does in cPro skins.- Nullsoft TV (Idem, if you have the links you´re good, get some here)- Winamp.com- Winamp.com Forums (there is: winampforum.com, not official of course, but it nicely replicates the old one)- Winamp.com skins (luckily, there´s DeviantArt / 1001skins)- Winamp.com plugins (later it will be uploaded somewhere)- Winamp Android app (See this thread for more info / precautions)- Winamp MAC application- Support for Windows 8 (although community will do its best to help)- Winamp Cloud (already dead, never got out of beta)The good news (yes! there are!)# People can now create Online services# Winamp can still be improved by plugins. Tutorials are all over internet and there will still be some devs to ask to in case of emergency.# There can still be "life" for Winamp after this, if enough Plugin developers join again, A LOT OF IMPROVEMENTS CAN STILL BE DONE. Now more than ever, the power to make Winamp even better is in Community´s hands.# DrO, the main dev of Winamp 5.666 (among other things..) will keep on working on his plugins, plus some others, so let´s help them in what we can and don´t forget that, as usual they only do it for the love to Winamp, no money was ever gained from this.. so keep that in mind when requesting / asking.# Last but not least, personal thinking.. if AOL is not interested any more in Winamp, then now more than ever is more likely that someone could buy it and start to do things like it should`ve been done years ago.. or set it free to the community. Maybe this is not an end, maybe it is just changing air...http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?p=2975210

steven36
What it means is why free players keep advanceing , That you want ever get no more updates, you will allways be able to find and installer somewere.A lot still use Winamp 2.95, because over the years alot had troblue with newer versions of it , someone told me after there music collection grew so large it took new Winamp 5 Min to load.Alot still useing Winamp 2.95 and many switched to frreeware players over the years plus Keygens for new Winamp , AOL is makeing no money from it , so there closeing up shop , when AOL buy Winamp they done it to make money , if not the case they would trun it in to freeware long ago .As far as Support for Windows 8 , I'm running Windows 8.1 , I been useing KMPlayer 2.9.3 the build before Pandora buy them out still works fine.Date Released: Jan 25, 2007All software dont stop working because of windows upgrades , just some does lol , chances are I could install Winamp 2.95 and it would work for me as well. Also, even if development stops it doesn't cost much to keep a static site up and running, preserving all the official and third party downloads (skins, plugins etc.), and especially the forum where so much important information has accumulated over the years, but they're refusing to do even this. Basically AOL was useless and never knew what to do with the industry leading music player, and they might as well have killed it the day they threw Justin out. Regarding the Microsoft news it's old hat now but no-one's sure if it was merely a rumor or even if they were/are interested in the player or only SHOUTcast. One thig I'm sure of that most of any money that they were makeing were due to smartphone oweners, not the desktop version posted here, because pc is not whats hot any more.I know some I use to talk to on the PC , now you cant get them on there pc only they be on there phones, everyone is switching to phones .Plus there so many players thats free for Windows PC now, I myself use to use Winamp, I switch to AIMP like 3 years ago It's basclaily is A Winamp Clone with a lighter footpirnt.I'm like this with any software If I can find thats just as good for free , I'm going to use Free , Theres some stuff like Total Uninstall ,IDM and a few other things I cant replace , I no longer use software just because it can be cracked , I find a lot of Freeware and open source better even .Media Players I switch to free ones a while ago , I look at it like this the one that came with windows is free, long as you install some codec, you can play anything for free long as you have a new processer. Why should I buy something that came free with windows , If FireFox , Oprea and Google Chrome was shareware i bet almost everyone would use IE .By the way when Oprea 1st came out, they try to be shareware it didnt work they reverted to freeware.
