How to install a game from "GFWL" disc with Steam

Ok, I have Batman: Arkham Asylum and Arkham City which are both using Games For Windows Live.

Since GFWL is ending July 2014 I need to shift these games over onto Steam. I've activated the games with the keys in Steam, but now I want to use the disc to install the games. But it just isn't working.

I have tried run>c:\program files (x86)]steam\steam.exe -install e: ....but it doesn't do anything because the game disc was not from steam to start with. I have tried copying over the files into the steam directory and installing from there, that way Batman: AA only had about 200mb to download as it was already standing at 7.1 of 7.3gb, but after the download it doesn't work saying "disc write error". I don't want to download the whole game since I only get like 20gb per month.

What should/could I do?

EDIT: Arkham City looks like it works. Had to download about 600mb extra after copying over files from the initial installation. Not sure why Asylum isn't working though.

Here is a list of steam compatible retail games and Batman Arkham Asylum is not in it:
