7-Zip is an open-source file archiver, that offers the highest compression ratio, using the new 7z format, which delivers compression results that are usually 30-50% better than standard ZIP. We tested it with a server log file, which compressed with ZIP had a file size of 18 mb and using 7-Zip was reduced to 8 Mb (results may vary, depending on file type). 7Zip supports 7z, ZIP, CAB, RAR, ARJ, GZIP, BZIP2, TAR, CPIO, RPM and DEB formats, so it can be used with all popular archive files. The program offers a basic file explorer interface and also integrates into the Windows right-click menu. It can be associated with any of the supported formats and also offers command/line support.

i used to apply the theme by default..

but noobs complained i was trying to infect their computers..

so i try to stay away from that..

i even try to avoid UPX these days..

some think it's a virus if the CRC does not match the originals..

i'll patch multiple themes for you tomorrow :)

FYI: i prefer 7-ZipPortable vs. WinRAR because i can create a shortcut & place it in SendTo, then simply right-click a file or folder > SendTo 7-ZipPortable and it will launch!

WinRAR can only do that if the file is RAR format :(

Sorry but what do u mean by this? I already use your WinRARPortable this way. I can open all types of archives this way, not only RAR files. :huh:

The only problem is if the shortcut is named "WinRARPortable", it will be deleted when WinRARPortable exits. That's why I keep it as "WinRARPortable.exe".

Actually I have both 7zipPortable and WinRARPortable in my SendTo menu. :lol:

That's also what I meant. I can send any filetype to WinRARPortable using SentTo menu, even when it is not running. No problems for me at least.

That's also what I meant. I can send any filetype to WinRARPortable using SentTo menu, even when it is not running. No problems for me at least.

i meant non-archive formats.

ie. SendTo > .txt file ..

works with 7-Zip but not with WinRAR..

as for 7-Zip theme.. you're right.. i did forget :)

i run as a power user and sometimes forget..

if you're a non-admin:

• the theme is placed in 7-ZipPortable > Other.
• then you can manually apply the theme.. instructions are included..

How to manually apply theme:

• place ResPatchers in 7-ZipPortable > App > 7-Zip
• x64 users, also patch 7-Zip64
• launch CMD prompt w/administrative privileges
• navigate to directory in CMD
• enter: RespatcherName.exe -force

Note: by using -force switch.. it will skip the CRC check thereby allowing you to patch any version.

Tip:

• to navigate between drives, simply enter drive letter. ie. e: > Enter
• to navigate between directories in same drive: cd directory > Enter
