FukenGruven
Do you prefer the red pill? Some say it's better not to know, and simply live life..For me.. give me the red pill! The Matrix has always stuck in my mind since viewing it the first time. Not so much for it's special effects, but for the underlying concept.I have nightmares relating to that scene with all the babies in a tub of goo, hooked up to the mainframe, stuck in a coma state, being drained of energy.Maybe it's due to my life of partying :)But im much more in-tuned with the fringe topics..ie. Souls, Reality, etc.anyhow.. Scientists now believe we are living in a simulation. Why? aspects of nature that are supposed to be static — such as the speed of light or the fine-structure constant that describes the strength of the electromagnetic force — inexplicably drift from their “constant” values. (glitch)in 1999, astronomers analyzing the light from distant galaxies published hints that the universe’s “constants” might not be so constant. Specifically, they found that the value of the fine-structure constant — which determines how the galaxies’ light should appear — is one thousandth of a percent bigger today than it was 10 billion years ago. Glitches caused by our simulation being patched up could also be at the root of truly bizarre results that defy the normal rules of physics. One such possible effect appeared in 2011, when physicists working on the OPERA experiment in Europe made headlines as they claimed to have measured subatomic particles called neutrinos traveling faster than the speed of light, considered the universal speed limit. Another example of such a limit is found in the Greisen-Zatsepin-Kuzmin (GZK) limit, "an apparent boundary of the energy that cosmic ray particles can have." It's caused by "slowing interactions of cosmic ray protons with the microwave background radiation over long distances," according to Wikipedia, but the Bonn team says that it also exhibits the same kind of behavior you'd expect to see in a computer simulation. There was also another test i read about but can't seem to track it down ..it was a group of scientists trying to detect a sub-atomic particle..and they discovered it's only detectable if being observed!- a sign of a simulation :(im still trying to track down the article.. and will update when i do..UPDATE: Thanks to STEEL.. it was the God Particle..Essentially we're all living in a virtual reality-show..Be sure to put on a smile, and entertain your viewers.SourceSource Edited December 9, 2013 by FukenGruven

Lacius
Scientists most certainly do not say we live in a matrix. To jump from an observed phenomenon (e.g. perceived "inexplicable drifts from 'constant' values") to an unsubstantiated explanation (e.g. this is the matrix and it's a glitch) is idiocy, a type of argument from ignorance fallacy, and a non sequitur fallacy. You admit yourself that it's inexplicable, so you can't exactly argue anything about us living in a matrix. In reality, there are plenty of proposed explanations of the phenomena described above, and even if there weren't, that would be no reason to say we live in a matrix. That's not how science works.
