[Help] Sound comes from right speaker only!

I've HP Pavilion dv6000 Series Laptop with inbuilt Altec Lansing Speaker, which I had bought in 2008 with Vista preinstalled.

I've Changed and upgraded my OS several times.. recently I've done a clean install of Windows 8.1, after that I installed Realtek HD audio driver, when I was configuring the driver software I noticed the sound was coming from right speaker only.. :(

Is something wrong with OS or Driver software? or Is this hardware issue?

try uninstall Realtek HD driver > reboot > let windows use generic driver and see problem still exist.

did you install latest driver of Realtek that support 8.1 ?

I'd reckon it's a driver issue, roll back to an OS that did work prior, and test again.

I've wasted 3-4 days to Activate, update and configure Windows 8.1.. I can't go back just to test it.. :nono:

there must be some workaround..

does this case happen to built-in speaker? how about headphone or other speaker? does it give same result?

Problem is only with built in Speakers.. No issue in using head phones

try update to 2.73 that comes bug fix and customization otherwise you say goodbye for laptop and buy new one.

Old with hardware in-compatibility

cheers

Yeah, write your own drivers.. or the below taken from the HP site, for another user who had audio issues with the same setup :-

Step 1. At the Tiles menu type "Recovery"

Step 2. Choose HP Recovery Manager

Step 3. Drivers and Applications Reinstall

Step 4. Choose IDT High-Definition (HD) Audio Driver

Step 5. Install

Step 6. Restart your computer

NB: Try installing the 2.73 drivers in Win 7 Compatibility mode.

Or test here :- (To see if it is actually compatible with Win 8 / 8.1)

Also, have your tried a set of headphones to see if you get stereo sound ?.

it is a dv. that spells heat problems. since the left speaker doesn't work (which is located in the top left corner btw) , one would start thinking...well what's on that side of the computer? oh yes! the proccessor is there! a huge source of heat!that said, chances are, in one of those heat spikes the speaker cables melted and then shorted.

Yupp! it's hardware problem.. I contacted Service center, they tested the speakers with Xp and Windows 7...same problem with every os...

Now I'm Ok with single speaker, when both will stop working I'll replace them..
