Matsuda
Microsoft made Windows 8.1 available in the Store in an attempt to make it easier for everyone to install the update, but it turns out that quite a lot of users are actually experiencing issues. This time, it all comes down to a blue screen of death (BSOD) displayed during the installation process, with an error message telling users that the system was unable to create a ramdisk.“[it also] shows error number 0xc1900101. On reboot, it restores my original installation and provides the following error code: 0xc1900101-0x20017,” one user is reporting on Microsoft’s community forums.Microsoft claims that it’s all happening because of faulty drivers, so users are strongly recommended to download and install the latest versions for all available drivers.Users, on the other hand, claim that doing this makes absolutely no difference, so waiting for an official fix from Microsoft is their only option.Microsoft says that the error code 0xC1900101 – 0x40017 is usually returned whenever Windows 8.1 has to deal with incompatible drivers, so the company recommends everyone to make sure that all the latest drivers are installed on their systems. In addition, the company says that particular attention needs to be paid to Nvidia GeForce graphics cards. And still, a fix is on its way, Microsoft explained, to make it easier for all users who want to install the new Windows 8.1.“We are still investigating the issue to determine what additional drivers are causing this error. We’d like to thank everyone who sent us their log files to help us in this effort. We have collected enough sample files to work with, and are busy analyzing the logs at this time. We’ll post a fix or solution as soon as they are confirmed,” the company says.View: Article 1 Article

CPowell46
The really wise person wouldn'r "upgrade" to any new Microsoft OS, via clean installation or otherwise, until Microsoft releases an OS that is clearly an improvement over the one he's using. CPowell46
It's a bad sign when a given program behaves differently in different systems. But it happens. Avast! 8 is working fine for me...but Avast! 9 isn't.
Chancer
I've done 4 upgrades on different hardware and all went well.I agree with the point that a clean install is better if you can but sometimes the time to rebuild a PC and get it as you want it is prohibitive, especially if its a work PC. Marcus_SSA
Well for me that´s all funny, because on any situation, whatever version of O.S i use, I´m always install and use the alphas or betas version of software or drivers released on the web. Saying that, i did the upgrade from WIn 8 to 8.1 by the Store, and the install was perfect. Did not had any BSOD, no warning errors, nothing.
