TecMan
Hi Friends:I have my PC with Windows/explorer.exe reported 9600.16408...it's Windows 8.1 Pro RTM with Media Center...and it's working fine...Mr. Jinje quote...So Microsoft published the new iso for convenience factor and no one 'needs' it if they have the RTM-0 + run the dism resetbase command after installing the first four updates.Questions:1. Do I need to run dism /online /cleanup-image /resetbase?2. Is it necessary?3. Do you recommend me to run the dism resetbase command?ThanksTecMa
tezza
@TecMan,There is absolutely no reason to run dism /online /cleanup-image /resetbase, especially on a working fine windows install. :)(This is just caused by the confusion of poeople wanting the "new" ISO and and you have exactly the same version as the new ISO anyway running fine) Edited October 20, 2013 by tezza
ricktendo
/resetbase only removes the backup files making the updates permanent, you will not be able to uninstall them
unknownasphyxiated
if im not mistaken, resetbase remove any updates that had been supersededposted by Mr Jinje himself so @TecMan, refer back to that postUse the /ResetBase switch with the /StartComponentCleanup parameter1.Using the /ResetBase switch with the /StartComponentCleanup parameter of DISM.exe on a running version of Windows 8.1 removes all superseded versions of every component in the component store. From an elevated command prompt, type the following:CopyDism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup /ResetBaseWarningAll existing service packs and updates cannot be uninstalled after this command is completed. This will not block the uninstallation of future service packs or updates.
