Using the good old Acronis 2010 now for several years, works perfect on Win7 x64. A Try&Decide-modus comes with it.You can use a boot-CD or a F11-option for backing up or restoring your OS to an earlier time.

Really recommend this solid software, not bloated or tricky, but very reliable!

For me Norton Ghost 15 (not Windows 8 compatible).

I asked the same question few weeks ago and for me Norton Ghost is still the best.

I tested Acronis image software and it looked good, but saw on fora to many complaints about this software.

Also tested Macrium Reflect, but to many options for me.

Acronis true Image 2014 and complaints are that making the image was no problem, but sometimes when you want to restore the image, it fails.

Sometimes compatibility problems when image is made in versie x and you want to restore it with version y.

USB Problems because of the custom USB drivers of Acronis True Image.

Lots of features in Acronis True Image, but buggy.

These complaints comes from different users of Acronis True Image that I saw on a forum.

I use Norton Ghost more then 14 years and still happy with it.

RollbackRX is the best for me, 5s to backup/restore. I don't use a SSD.

I don't need to backup my system to external disk or other partition because I only need 30' to reinstall a new Windows, other softwares are portable

nowadays, almost softwares usually update (daily/weekly), don't need to backup them

See this one..built in imaging tools in Windows won't satisfy all you want...different users have different need...

I use IFW to create backup images of Windows 8.1(before installation of Rollback Rx) mainly to have backup for Windows Apps and MSO 2013 updates..it takes very long for me to redownload all those updates..if something happens with Rollback Rx ..i can use IFW images....

To OS or backup OS to another drive?

If to another drive then Disk Snapshot is the fastest I've seen. I'm using it now. Portable as well.

AX64 for snapshots which you're able to move back and forth.

Image For Windows if you want many options.

Shadow Protect using just the rescue disk.

What OS are you using?

I use offline Windows/Office updates and never use Windows Apps, useless for me
