help please - removing default tick in the "use this app for all (extension) files" box

Hi, this is for Windows 8 and 8.1

Anyone know of a way to remove the default checkmark (tick) from the tick box labled "use this app for all (extension) files" within the "How do you want to open this type of file?" dialog box? (found by using "open with, choose default program..." right-click context menu in file explorer)

By default this box is always checked, and creates unintended file associations if you do not uncheck it before choosing a program

Would be less of a nag if it defaulted as unchecked, as in this image:

how-do-you-want-to-open-this-type-of-fil

thanks for any solutions found!

p.s. for perspective, in older versions you could do this: http://www.askvg.com/how-to-enable-disable-always-use-the-selected-program-to-open-this-kind-of-file-option-in-open-with-dialog-box/

Alternately Try this:

Default Programs Editor

Default Programs Editor makes it easy to fix file association settings in Windows, including context menu items, icons, and descriptions. Also: autoplay settings and default programs settings ...all without fiddling around in the registry.

Many thanks Slimrock for the response, however these fixes do not work in Windows 8 or 8.1 because the dialog box that contains the ticked box is created from within the Metro app, not from within file explorer. The "opendlg" key within the registry doesn't exist any longer, as now metro takes over from the traditional 'choose default program' dialog box from Windows 7. For tablet users that actually use Metro apps this may not be much of a nag, but for desktop users that run multiple programs on single file types, this just blows.
