rudrax
As it is turned out that the CPU of a notebook is removable so I wanna know, is it possible to replace the older one with a newer one - with latest generation i3, i5? I have HM55 chipset and the socket is LGA1155 (I guess). The notebook is Sony vaio VPCEB24EN.
emerglines
Yep! you can replace them, but you need to know which CPU is compatible with your motherboard...

rudrax
@Dodel, does HM55 supports all the CPUs listed there? I'm quite confused because topmost varients of i7 are also listed there.@software182, the main thing is the socket of your motherboard. You can instal only the kind of CPU which is supported by the kind of the socket you have in your mobo. Yet, I do not have a much hardware level knowledge, so, expecting some expert of that level to pop up here.

Ragdd
Some laptops have socketed CPU's which can be replaced, others have fixed soldered CPU's (cheap budget laptops). You have to check in the technical papers of your laptop (website manufacurers laptop) what CPU will work on the motherboard (sometimes with bIOS upgrade) and if the cooling is efficiënt enough for the new CPU. SlimRock
http://www.cpu-upgrade.com/mb-Intel_%28chipsets%29/HM55_Express.htmlList is full of 1st Generation processors, they are Obsolete. IMO better wait until next year when intel is gonna launch next Lineup of processors with DDR4 Memory support.
