This is not a win8.1 or IDM problem as working fine here.

Simply disable the lockscreen.

http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/5763-lock-screen-enable-disable-windows-8-a.html

the problem is still present

Go to Control --> Power options

Click on change Plan settings in front of selected current power plan..

Click on Change advanced power settings

Make sure 'Never' is selected in front of Put the computer to sleep in both options

Under the 'Sleep' option, select 'Never' in both cases Sleep After and Hibernate After

And then click Apply and OK.

You will have to repeat these settings in all three power plan viz, Balanced, Power saver and High Performance If you switch your power plan frequently..

Done!!!

Roger that Roger... ;) That should be the solution, IMO.

The OP already stated he has adjusted the power options to "never" but to make sure, follow the instructions of Roger D.

If problem still persists maybe driver problem?
