Roger D
Ya.. I'm little late to this topic as I'm out of the town and off to internet for a week.. :P Any way, there is everywhere discussion about the leaked Windows 8.1 RTM, Activation Issue, drivers and antivirus compatibility issues and so on... in the forum. But I can't go through all the topics related to windows 8.1.. :PI have some basic doubts regarding windows 8.1. If anyone using it just make my doubts clear.. :rolleyes:1) Is windows 8.1 a new operating system or just the service pack for windows 8?means will I have to simply update my windows 8 through windows Update or will I have to reinstall the new OS?2) My laptop is of year 2008(Windows vista was preinstalled in it) but Windows 8 is running smoothly in it without any drivers conflict. Will it be wise to upgrade it to windows 8.1? ( I have doubts about driver incompatibility in windows 8.1).3) MS has not released Windows 8.1 officially. should I wait till it's official release? or Is the leaked version same as the official release ? 4) I have activated my windows 8 through november_ra1n Phone method. will I have to do the activation again if i upgrade it to windows 8.1?5) And what about antivirus? Is Windows defender still bundled with it? or Any antivirus fully compatible with it? :) :) :)

Ponting
I clean installed Win 8.1 Pro x64,only experienced BSODs.Still no driver has worked for me.May be wait till there is official support for Windows 8.1 drivers.
tezza
You simply download an update ( actually Win8.1) which is downloaded through the Windows Store. so you can choose when to download it . I dont know the actual size of the update offhand. All installed software, files and settings remain untouched with an upgrade and as i said, it works like a charm.NSFfan has trouble with a driver and others have also, but you only hear from people who post a problem. I have installed on 12 pc's and have yet to encounter a problem.

poppabear52
I installed leaked versions of windows 8.1 along with the preview release and had no problems at all. Installed the leaked RTM over everything and still no problems, have lost nothing in the process. Works absolutely fine for me.

tezza
@the Patcher,If your apps are always stuck at pending Open an administrative command prompt (go to the Start screen, type "cmd", right-click on Command Prompt and hit "Run as administrator") Type the following four commands in the command prompt: net stop wuauservcd %systemroot%ren SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.oldnet start wuauserv Try downloading app again.Win 8.1 update will not affect your Office (will remain activated) or any other installed softwareAlso 2 members have posted a problem (and it is not even officially released yet dont forget) , then see how many have downloaded from ra1ns topic and Win8.1 works for the vast majority without problems. ;) Edited September 4, 2013 by tezza
