cruelsister
Hi Guys- I've been testing an antimalware combination for the past 4 months, and it has consistently provided the best results of any product I've tested (except KIS2014 which is superb). It consists of Qihoo360 (from China) and Comodo Firewall. Here is the link:http://360safe.com/pc.htmlto download Qihoo (the download is large, but only because they include up to date definitions. Install it at the default settings.Second, get Comodo Firewall here:http://www.comodo.com/products/free-products.phpPlease Note!!!- when you install CF, after you run the installer choose "Custom Install" on the second screen that will pop up. There you can uncheck GeeK Buddy and Comodo Dragon. Now you will want to tweak Comodo slightly- after install:1). Right click the Comodo icon in the tray2). Check Advanced view3). Right click the icon again.4). Go to HIPS, and disable it (you will already have a HIPS with Qihoo, so having Comodo's on at the same times adds nothing except annoyance)5). Go to Auto-sandbox and click Full VirtualizationThat's it! Both products are free and you will have the best protection around with quite low system impact. Any malware that isn't detected by Qihoo (and it has great detection rates) and Comodo Cloud (which kicks in on samples run) will be contained in the Sandbox and rendered harmless. jamesDDI
thanks for advice but quihoo has already a firewall? Edited August 24, 2013 by denzel
SkyrimGuy
No it doesn't have a firewall. It has network filter for web sites. I can attest that this combo is great.I agree with cruelsister. It's probably one of the best free combo's you're going to find. The only thing that I have done differently is I have comodo's HIP enabled. The only reason I have this is because I like to see what's going on. I don't mind the pop ups from comodo. To be honest I don't get a lot of them, so it's not a big deal. SkyrimGuy
Yes one would think by the name that it has a firewall. I believe someone had mentioned that it did fairly well on a leak test. Even though it doesn't have a firewall.
Roger D
What about Windows Firewall + 360 Internet security ? isn't it enough? or should i switch off the windows firewall and go for Comodo?
smallhagrid
I put 360IS on a friend's desktop and notebook and it is doing very well for him.Another free one that I am using myself is Unthreat - and it seems pretty good for a free AV. SkyrimGuy
What about Windows Firewall + 360 Internet security ? isn't it enough? or should i switch off the windows firewall and go for Comodo? :think:I would switch over to comodo. Not only are you getting the firewall but your also getting the online scanner, behavior blocker with sandbox and the HIPS if you want it. It's also very light on the system. cruelsister
I guess I should expand a bit on Qihoo for those not familiar with the product. Qihoo the company had been an AV designer in China for about 10 years. They expanded into the Search market a few years ago and have been very successful at it. With the revenue from Search they've grown into the second biggest AV company i the world (second only to Symantec in dollar volume). With this cash they have improved their flagship application, Qihoo360. The International (English) version that you and I can download is composed of 2 AV engines, Bitdefender and their own proprietary one, in addition to a Cloud scanner. There is also a Proactive Protection module. As there is no Firewall in the English Q360, one needs to be added. As I noticed that the Comodo Cloud was complimentary in detection to Qihoo (say for example one tests 100 malware samples against Q- If we assume Q detects 90, Comodo cloud will pick up 5 of the remainder), I combined these products. As part of my job I test malware applications. I added Q+CF about 4 months ago an so far it has provided perfect coverage; The only other product this good has been KIS2013-4 with Application Control at Untrusted. But please note the suggested settings- although the HIPS of CF won't harm anything if turned on, it really adds nothing to protection and will give added popups. Any undected malware wil be shunted into CF's sandbox. At the Full V setting undetected samples will run virtualized to its malicious hearts content in the sandbox, but even if allowed access to connect to the internet, no personal information can be passed out, and any downloaded malware files will also be contained in the sandbox. On either sandbox reset or computer reboot nothing is left. No temp files, no registry entries. Nothing. For those that try this, please share your impressions! jabrwky
spudboy
Looks like Qihoo has pretty horrible phishing detection. The worst of the 16 tested.http://www.av-comparatives.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/avc_aph_201308_en.pdf
