Microsoft Windows 7 Beta Build 7068

Recommended Posts

Windows 7 Build 7068 has the complete build tag snap1m.png, signifying it’s just been compiled on March 21, 2009. The new 7068 build has fixed the annoying bug where Notepad auto pop up with desktop.ini opened on startup as happened in Windows 7 Build 7057, and improvements on gadget compatibility.

Torrent downloads:

Windows 7 x86 build 7068 AllSKU version *

Windows 7 Ultimate x64 build 7068

*Basically the Windows 7 Build 7068 Professional x86 (32-bit) (7068.0.090321-1322_x86fre_client_en-us_Retail_Professional-GRC1CPRFRER_EN_DVDcopy.iso) with the source/ei.cfg file removed so that you can select which edition to install.

Upgraded from Build 7057 to 7068 just fine here with a public beta key (x86 version)

c'mon with the final Microsoft :)

Agreed, it's annoying to keep burning DVD's for every build B)

Have been running 7057 on both my laptop and desktop for sometime now.

It installed all the drivers on my desktop.

Installed almost everything on my laptop... it downloaded the rest during the 1st update.

Very responsive.. considering I have AMD Turion X2 1.6GHz and 895Mb RAM

Will be installing 7068 next week.

Heres a small compilation of the improvements over Build 7057

- Improvement in performance and responsiveness

- Shutdown seems a little faster

- Network discovery problem from 7057

- IE favorites page icon caching (it seems at least)

- Memory leak with using mic that apered in 7057 is fixed it

- The Internet Explorer Jumplist and MRU list has two tasks in it, "In Private" and "New Tab"

- The WMP flipped thumbnail when minimized bug is gone.

- Fixed some of my wireless problems

- Windows Media Center seems to have lots of structural changes regarding media management. There is a new animation when the program is starting.

- Windows Backup program included has been improved.

- Fixed .mp4 files not showing in the default allowed types in windows media player

All features have already been implemented, so basically what they're doing now is messing with the User Experience (for instance, add menus and dialogs and what not to the places where they think is appropriate), bug hunting (and of course, that also means performance tuning as well). Not only that, and there must be a ton of debug code running in leaked builds since they're NOT meant for us regular people to be using. I think we will see a very nice jump in performance in RC1 due to optimizations Microsoft is going to do to prepare for public usage and all the debug code that's going to be removed(if that hasn't happened already because 7068 outperforms 7057 by a long shot IMHO).

Trying out Windows 7... Hell yes.

But wait for the RC1. Should see more refinement and lot less changes after that.

Here are a few more that I am learning...

- Fixed desktop.ini and dual display bugs in 7057 (This was the most obvious)

- EULA says "Release Candidate" now instead of "Release Candidate 1" in 7057

- Bugs with thumbnail view on the superbar

  • 2 weeks later...

My sources insist that it's a RC1. Let's wait and watch (it's just a matter of time before jfe or KilJaden break this news with the links.) :nono:
