I would like to prevent somebody from visiting those pages. I prefer to block it via host file so that person won't know what happen. Ramjade
Can't be doneWhich means I either block the whole facebook domain or I don't block right? But I manage to block a blogspot page via url + ip in the host, So why can't I do the same for FB?
calguyhunk
Go to Privacy Shortcuts (top right - the lock icon) and this is what you get from FB:-Q - "How do I stop someone from bothering me?"A - "You can block someone to unfriend them and prevent them from starting conversations with you or seeing things you post on your timeline."In the space provided there, you'll have to type in the name or EMail of the person that you're trying to block. FB should do the rest :)
Administrator DKT27 Posted July 26, 2013 Administrator Share Posted July 26, 2013 Can't be doneWhich means I either block the whole facebook domain or I don't block right? But I manage to block a blogspot page via url + ip in the host, So why can't I do the same for FB?Because blogspot probably contains subdomains (abc.blogspot.com) and Facebook probably doesn't (just facebook.com/abc).Host file respects domain (and subdomain) names, not full urls.Do as I've done. I've blocked Facebook not only from hosts file, but also within anti-virus and router. If you are planning to block Facebook, these are some of the addresses you need to block, to prevent anyone from using it:http://www.facebook.comhttps://www.facebook.comm.facebook.comhttp://*.facebook.com/blog.facebook.comapps.facebook.comlogin.facebook.commobile.facebook.comtouch.facebook.com0.facebook.comstatic.ak.facebook.comfacebook.net
calguyhunk
OK, so you're not looking to block somebody from accessing you. You're looking to block somebody from accessing specific FB pages from your PC? Is that it?

You're looking to block somebody from accessing specific FB pages from your PC? Is that it? :think:It's what i understand. But i think it's not possible to block just specific pages by host file.

calguyhunk
Yup. That is right. You can do that by setting custom filters on OpenDNS Family Shield. You can either choose to set it up on your router or on a particular PC alone. Edited July 27, 2013 by calguyhunk

I do not want certain people in my house to have access to that facebook group because I am in charge of the house computer. it will bring bad stuff to my family. The person I am trying to block obviously he/she will knows if I use some program as "abc block access to this page". But with the host files, it will put this no data received. Administrator DKT27 Posted July 27, 2013 Administrator Share Posted July 27, 2013 So back to topic. Can I block it via router?I don't think routers can block specific urls. Atleast mine doesn't, maybe advanced routers can.
