jalaffa
LibreOffice is a productivity suite that is compatible with other major office suites and available on a variety of platforms. It is free software and therefore free to download, use and distribute. The goal is to produce a vendor-independent office suite with ODF support and without any copyright assignment requirements. LibreOffice is capable of performing the same tasks as every other office suite, from making calculations to drawing. Thanks to sternog for the update.Download

GreenMan
As far as I know, Libre Office has been removing java dependencies in the last couple versions. That should mean spead increases, right? :)
Fallon
LibreOffice is an easy install, without the crap heap that has to be skipped when installing Open Office.Removal of java dependencies started after user feedback.Getting away from Sun and Oracle's ownership has been the reason for LibreOffice and java is owned by Oracle.http://www.libreoffice.org/download/release-policy/ <Release Policy and Schedule LibreOffice Edited August 1, 2013 by Fallon
