Thanks for the update. I wonder why does people do not like new Opera browser using the webkit. Yes, it's a pity they stopped developing Presto, and there are some things I don't like, but for me, it works better than older Opera browser.

This browser is a total disaster and a 100% completely pointless rip-off. Just say we're giving up and be done with it. Anyone who doesn't know that must be tripping...

There are no advantages over Google Chrome bar the advertising or more especially Chromium, the open source original updated every hour or so. If you want extensions Chrome/Chromium offer thousands, besides the much greater functionality already written into these browsers.

The old Opera is still being developed and although it was a pain to cater for, at least Presto was a genuine alternative rather than this POS.

If you want a Webkit browser you have many to choose from. Remember, Opera have a lengthy history of shooting themselves in the foot.

Makes Windows 8 look like a triumph if you ask me...

Opera should make Presto open source and someone should fork it.

Opera should make Presto open source and someone should fork it.

This has been brought up at their Opera blog postings and Opera replied that they are unable to release it now because some of their other software are still running on Presto. However Opera also said that they have something in their Labs that they might be able to open source. :p

look , Opera 15 is faster than chrome , You can run tests on it whic is not the "smoking gun" in the proof land but it can give you some idea.

beside ,as a chrome and ff user you can immediately feel and see that opera doing stuff much faster than google chrome... its simple as that.

I agree. Opera is definitely going down the toilet much faster than Google Chrome, for example...

As for being consigned to history, it's doing that much more quickly too!

That's a lie!

Before you say I'm lying, why not show what I'm lying? you too use my pc? Your post is empty and useless.
Sorry its useless chrome fanboy, more for your sorrow I'll keep using Opera until other browser works better than him.

man , lets keep it the pro side , i am a chrome / ff user i hate opera from other reason than speed ... BUT to be honest when you put this 2 browsers head to head OPERA wins and wins big time , not only by numbers over some tests i done , also in the wild :)

PS

check opera mem usage , its also HALF + - than google chrome in same open pages ... so i can say now :wtf: NOT YOU :D

Lol. Well, in the tests I have run I would say the opposite is true. The old Opera is half the speed of *CHROMIUM* in my experience and the new version uses WebKit so is probably about the same. Your point about memory is interesting, but I can't test that right now and it is probably down to a lack of features anyhow, so is not really a fair comparison...

Besides, I used to run Opera (Presto) as my main browser several years back. I switched to Google Chrome, then Google Chrome Dev, then Google Chrome Canary Build and finally the open-source *CHROMIUM* as my main browser, when my partner's son couldn't even get beyond the first levels of a rudimentary game that used CSS 3 and why? Because of the lack of support for this standard in guess what, the Opera browser. So he's feeling like an idiot and why do you think they've switched to WebKit after all?

I could run tests to prove my point regarding *CHROMIUM*'s superiority when it comes to JavaScript speed, but it'll only cause a flame war and I don't have Opera 15 on any machine to do that any more. I do know I had to use the onmousedown event rather than onclick for Opera (Presto) *only* when developing a web page recently, but that was more of a PITA than a bonus if you're asking me. The latest version simply comes over as a Chrome variant basically, so that has put paid to this particular issue.

I can't really debate about anything to do with Google Chrome, because I strive not use any browser developed by a corporate monolith and hope you'll do the same. I use *CHROMIUM* myself as I have said before and so do all my family. Firefox I use in second place and the old Opera (Presto) to flag up JavaScript errors. Apart from the Opera bit, my family all do the same...

Peace out!

:wtf:

Opera is same as Chromium. No big changes yet so what you are (not) experiencing is just placebo. You can use what you want just stop writing FUD kiddo.

With chrome I had to close it after several hours of use, because it was slow and crashing. but with the opera I leave it open when I turn on my pc until the time I go off because it keeps stable all the time, so I want more of this placebo.

Perhaps the opera team has to teach google how to work with its own engine.

Allow me to quote the test results from their forum and credit goes to vux777 :

"a little bit of test (if someone's interested)

Octane (javascript benchmark)

(on amd X3 455 3.3 GHz, 6 Gb ram, win7 ultimate x64)

Octane Score:

Opera 11.64 ---------- 3764 (incomplete)

Opera 12.16 x64 ---- 4027 smiley.gif

Opera 15 ---------- 12374

FF UX 25.0a1 ----- 12453

Opera 16 ---------- 13263"

"I could run tests to prove my point regarding *CHROMIUM*'s superiority when it comes to JavaScript speed"
