AlienForce1 Posted June 24, 2013 Share Posted June 24, 2013 There are already 2-3 days since Windows 8 installed on one of PC-s is giving me headaches : CPU goes high usage (~60%) with the PC not used at all !The PC is clean , Windows updated , genuine lic. (thank you november_ra1n B) ) , no AV (I use Shadow Defender on that PC) , Windows Update + BITS = disabled , no defragm. in real time (PD is on manual in services) , `Optimize Drives` = disabled ... R0H1T Posted June 24, 2013 Share Posted June 24, 2013 Do the following ~1) run process hacker with admin rights2) scroll to the process with most CPU cycles3) right click the given process & select "properties"4) now within the process properties there is a "threads" tab, select that5) there you'll see breakup of each individual thread as in which of'em is responsible for the high cpu usageThere might be some extension(like for explorer shell) which maybe causing this spike, for instance in my case IDM handles have caused this sorta behavior many a times.You can disable such components or uninstall the given program in such a case. R0H1T Posted June 24, 2013 Share Posted June 24, 2013 check which processes that cause the high usageLooks like the system is either installing windows updates or doing maintenance task in the background, see if there are any pending updates if yes then install them else go to action center in control panel & change the maintenance settings. Did you miss the part where I said "system maintenance" could be it ? Tiworker is a system process that handles windows update installation, sytem maintenence, sytem file verfifcation(/sfc) et al. So if none of these tasks are being performed in the background then as dcs18 said it could be a third party app like shadow defender manhandling your system, highly doubt it though, which is why I said to use process hacker to pinpoint the offending process & the indidvidual thread responsible for the spikes ! R0H1T Posted June 24, 2013 Share Posted June 24, 2013 The PC has this configuration (Win.8 + SD) since febr.2013 and was working ok till last week ...It doesn't matter, even a slight change in the system or third party apps like IDM can cause a lot of instability, so I'd suggest you to see if its due to windows system maintenance(action center) or due to any number of third party apps(use process hacker) like shadow defender & remember not to tinker as in delete/damage Tiworker or you'll have to reset the whole system. R0H1T Posted June 24, 2013 Share Posted June 24, 2013 Seems you're fine with the system services, btw did you change the last setting just now, anyways try this ~Simply launch a Command Prompt window and run this command with administrator privileges:DISM /Online /cleanup-image /RestoreHealthType the above code if you already had system maintenance disabled, if not then after disabling system maintenance restart your PC & see what happens.
