So, here I am with some stuff on a hosting service that has quit on it's support and I must assume it's gonna go dead on me soon.

It's not a super-cheapie or a super-pricey one and I've used all kinds before and they all seem to burn out after about 9 months or so and then go dead at some point.

No biggie - BUT:

Aside of cPanel full backups and having the new host restore it as a migration, is there an easy/quick way to do it one's self with some script or program ??

I know how to make and download backups OK, and can FTP as well of course - so I'm just asking if anybody recommends a better/quicker/easier way and maybe some s/w that does it really well ??

Thanks.

Yes, the app is called CPanel, Its a web app and you already have it.

Easiest and quickest way is to use restore functions or manually FTP files in and import sql's etc.

Now, if I understood correctly, I am also interested about this, I will deal with this matter. I know that there are some options or opportunities between servers, but do not know at this moment more. At the moment I'm working on the name servers connection problem.

Yes, I know you said that which is why I said "You already have it", ie the best and quickest way of making backups/migration is the inbuilt feature or by using FTP.

I honestly dont see what you hope to acomplish since any external app would be impractical since you would need some soprt of acompying software on server so by the time you have installed this software on both servers and set everything up you could have simply used the inbuilt migration feature of WHM, Cpanel, FTP, phpmyadmin etc.

The explanation is quite simple and has several components, like so:

Hosting providers tend to vanish after arbitrary periods of time and with zero warning;

Sometimes it is not even possible to access cPanel and/or WHM when this happens.

Saving & restoring hand-made backups from a windows OS to Linux-based hosting is always problematic - and from what I can see it is mostly due to the Unix obsession with file/folder permissions.

There are many, many steps involved in this process also - which leads to the weakest link of all (for this olde guye):

Remembering to do every single thing correctly, somehow.

Right now - seriously, today, I am trying to work out the bugs in moving a bit of stored, important info from a dying provider on one domain to another, newer provider on another domain - and it is pretty much...hell.

Used Zamfoo Migrator to restore the full backup made by cPanel; and it did not work properly so that required help from their support team; and now that the files are in place the perms are ALL screwed up and it does not execute fully or correctly.

Definitely NOT an ideal solution !!!
