What codecs can we use best for Win7x64, the Windows.7.codec.pack 4.0.7. or the media.player.codec.pack 4.1.7 ??

Dont see any difference between these two codec-packs,they are both suitable for Win7,but which one is the best??

Dont want to use KLite, too much updates and to big. Would like to use one of the mentioned above, because not to bloated and simple to install and last but not least they play almost everything !!

Personally I preferred K-Lite Mega codecs because they always keep it up to date. But if preferred a slimmer codecs then choose its Standard version ... :) ...

The codecs you mentioned above only covered the minimum requirements for audio video playback as I have used them before but later switched to K-Lite for better overall performance and their decent support teams.

Hope this explaination does help and have an awesome day ... :)

You don't have to install updates if u don't want to. I know ppl who use K-Lite packs released last year with no problems. The updates are there for those who want keep their codecs up-to-date.

OK shamu726,just installed the media.player.codec.pack 4.1.8 and it works fine, really dont know which file it doesnt play !

Still want to know wich codec-pack is the best for Win7 , the windows7.codec.pack 4.0.7 or the one I just installed ; media.player.codec.pack. 4.1.8. ??

It seems, nobody really knows which one of these two is the best !

If u just want to play a video/audio file, either pack would do, since they consist of the same codecs. Windows 7 Codec Pack has some additional tools (Codec Settings GUI, Taskbar Tray Menu, Update Checker) but it's really a matter of personal preference than any thing else. I don't think either one is better than the other.

Personally I use K-Lite because it has tools like Codec Tweak Tool and MediaInfo, that I use.

Try both and go with the one that is the most comfortable to you. :)

Edit: Just compared both and Windows 7 Codec Pack has TuneUp Utilities bundled. Just that alone would make me recommend Media Player Codec Pack instead.

Thanks for your help,shamu726,did not try the windows codec pack 4.0.7,but installed the media player codec pack 4.2.8 ( the newest!). It offered TuneUp ,but I unchecked it,of course! So both codec-packs try to get you in TuneUp Utilities!

Well,if you uncheck it,it should be no problem. I keep using this media codec pack, for used the earlier versions of this codec-pack a long time without any problems, thank you all for your help and interest anyway!!
