Alanon
I received a badly corrupt doc from a friend to clean up. It's a .doc Word file, written (we suspect) with an outdated text editor, and substandard fonts. The problem is, people have been opening and saving it on their own for god knows how many times. The file opens without errors, and the bulk of the text is visible. What's bad are the footnotes, which got scrambled all the way, the Serbian characters (for instance‚ "~u" instead of "ž"), and the overall formatting of the text lines. :wut: :wut: :wut:Is there an easy way to fix this? By easy I mean semi-automated? Is there a utility available? Anything you can advise me on will be helpful. Thanks! :showoff:

Alanon
Anyone have a portable Office with proofing Tools that will do the job? XD I really don't want to get too invested with this.
dcs18
I've used a few Office portables in the past and they do not work satisfactorily - Office is one of those programs which is not suitable for portables (it's too deep-rooted into the kernel.) Alanon
Well, went to install 2010 SP1 with all the updates and the Language Pack. Unfortunately, the text is scrambled in such a way that there are no entries in the dictionary, so proofing the text does'nt work... Any other ideas? At least now I have Office at my disposal. :dunno:
