WinRAR 5.00 Beta 3

WinRAR is a powerful archive manager providing complete support for RAR and ZIP archives and is able to unpack CAB, ARJ, LZH, TAR, GZ, ACE, UUE, BZ2, JAR, ISO, 7Z, Z archives. Its RAR format may only take second place for its level of compression – but it is consistently the fastest when it comes to both packing and unpacking files. While RAR files are not native to Windows or Mac, many other compression programs are still capable of unpacking it. WinRAR is available on Windows, OSX, and Linux, despite the name.

Thanks to thylacine and Tyan Tiger for the update.

I had WinRAR 4.20 installed, downloaded the x64 5.00 Beta 3 and installed over the older release, it's still activated:

(Open any .rar file) >>----> Options >>----> Settings... >>----> Viewer >>----> Associated program

When I click "View" inside winrar , always Unicode. :(

After setting up the above configuration, what happens if you double-click a text file instead of clicking the View?

I click "View" instead, because associated program too slow, internal viewer very fast to open xml file. I usually open xml file with idm ultra edit, notepad, notepad++.

This is not happen in winrar 4.20 , but after I use winrar 5 , I get this problem.

When you click View, the internal viewer built into WinRAR is employed.

When you double-click a file, your personal configuration over-rides the inbuilt viewer - this is a great arrangement as one can now have more than one choice.

Yeah, you're right.

I think v4.20 is best choice if you're like internal viewer.

I have emailed dev, hope in winrar 5 we can setting default viewer for internal viewer (windows text, dos or unicode).

Already did, but after close winrar and open again .rar file containing text file , default viewer change to other. Not stay on View as windows text.

May be this bug for winrar 5.

For .xml files you can always use a double-click.

There's nothing faster than the native Windows Notepad.

I'd rather migrate from x32-bit to x64-bit - brings the scope for an increase in RAM.

This one is rumored to be the lightest 3rd party NotePad alternative. :dunno:
