Halite.pngHalite is a open-source BitTorrent client and is based on the excellent libtorrent library from Rasterbar Software. What makes Halite stand out is its remote control interface allowing you to monitor and control the program from a mobile phone. Halite is written in Unicode so it will only run on Win2k or higher.

For those that give a shit...

"Hey all, a new snapshot out now. It will hopefully lead to the next stable i.e. I don't want to add additional features until I get this build fully stable.

Code:

+ from v 0.3.1.6 to 0.3.1.7:

1) Queue View Fixed

2) Sorting fixed.

3) libtorrent 0.14 integration finished.

+ from v 0.3.1 to 0.3.1.6:

1) Based on libtorrent 0.14 which brings with it:

- Disk cache support

- 'Managed torrent' queue system

- Improved seeding and choking behavior

- Resource usage optimizations

- Many more fixes and improvements

(code.rasterbar.com/libtorrent/browser/tags/libtorrent-0_14/ChangeLog)

2) Optional port randomizations (both main and DHT).

3) Numerous internal settings are now exposed by the GUI.

4) Plays nice by Vista/Server 2008 UAC rules. See note above.

2) Rewritten XML fileformat (again) with greatly improved robustness.

Like the previous release, those upgrading from the latest stable will need to do the following;

When installing through the MSI file download, Halite will make a registry entry pointing it to use the local Application Data directory for all configuration files. Users should manually copy any existing files from an older Halite version to that directory. The recommended files and folders to copy are:

Halite.xml

BitTorrent.xml

IPFilter.bin

DHTState.bin

resume/*

torrents/*

These changes were necessary to make Halite fully compatible with User Account Control. To revert to 'portable mode' whereby all config information will be saved alongside the executable simply delete that registry key (HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Halite\path). If you only ever used the standalone download release this will not be necessary.

It shouldn't necessary if upgrading from the previous snapshot. Even though it's not classed as stable I would actually recommend this release as the libtorrent 0.14 support and features make it a better client.

Another change is that the translations are a separate download. I made that decision because the translations aren't in sync with the Halite releases and couldn't be so in 'volunteer contributions' style. By using a separate package I can update just those files."

I can furnish a link to this information upon request (it's in the Halite General Info forums).
