ESET - Auto Updating... What fix actually works & keeps working ?

I posted earlier today (http://www.nsaneforums.com/topic/130543-eset-fixes/?findpost=573412) about what looks like a failure of the Box/Mara Fix to keep working on EAV for me; now EAV says it is expiring.

(Of course since I never used that before that may be normal but I have no clue...?)

In the past I used Tnod & Minod at different times and they always worked pretty well until some change happened and I needed to find their latest version.

What I'm asking is this:

Is there a fix for EAV that is working for sure right now that can just be put in and is most likely going to work automatically for a while ?!?

Why this matters to me is:

We've got a bunch of PCs in the house here and besides mine the others can be, well - sort of life-threatening for me to have to fix (teenagers & women can be a bit territorial !!) so I'm in no hurry to have my head handed to me and want to have their AV stay live & updated for a while even if I have to rip out EAV and put in something else.

I hope somebody knows the answer to my question.

Thanks.

TNod works just fine. If you want to get it from the official site go to tukero.org while EAV is disabled

Thanks.

Tnod is good for me - but I don't know how to automate it for the others in the house.

Minod used to work at every re-boot, but it used to fail alot too.

(I use Tnod manually for my own PC.)

I find that it's only a Trial Reset that keeps on working, without any further tinkering. The box, mara- fix has never failed for me - however, as I remember you're running XP (cannot discount it having a possible issue with XP.)

I'd suggest:-

  • ESET PureFix 2.03 (by PurpleBeanZ) since box, mara- fix is not working for you
  • Checking out whether you've really got the latest box, mara- 1.7 and not 1.7 Beta (in case you prefer the box, mara- fix over the ESET PureFix.)

Thanks dcs18.

You are correct, I'm running XP.

I'll re-check which version of the Box/Mara I've got as you suggest.

I searched for the ESET PureFix 2.03 by PurpleBeanZ around here and couldn't find it - am I blind, or what ?!?

It isn't on the frontpage listing and the Eset Fix thread is umpty-ump pages long...

LOL, yeah - PurpleBeanZ has stopped developing the ESET PureFix (hence, it's not working consistently with the latest ESET builds) - some have reportedly got it working with an older version of ESET PureFix.

Hope someone who uses it regularly comes to your assistance.

Knightmare

If box-mara isn't working for whatever reason, you could install this, which offers numerous other fixes.

Thanks Knightmare, for the perfect pointer !!!

It has these 2 things:

* Box & Mara Fix 1.7 final (x86/x64)
* ESET PureFix 2.02 (x86/x64)

Exactly what I was looking for.

Edit=>

Sincere apologies for getting your nick wrong Knightmare !!

I was doing 3 things at once - and had I realized I could just grab the newest U.S. to get multiple solutions I sure would have done that instead of posting my query...

I wonder why no link to U.S. is in the frontpage listing for Eset anyhow ??

Another thing nobody seems to know (or maybe nobody will tell...) is how to set up a local update server for everybody in the same household - Nod Update Viewer seems to be able to do it, but it's author does not speak english.

It seems silly when there's 4 users for each one to have to download the same stuff every day...just my 2 cents though.

I could be wrong - but, I suppose smallhagrid was referring to Ulisess Seguridad. ;)

What I did so far, and a question, please:

How does one go about setting up and using the endpoint thingy instead of EAV - is there a best way to do it ??

What I did for right now is just un-fix and re-fix using Box/Mara and it is OK again until it wants to expire again ?!?

Ah, a lot of reasons.

  • We like tried and tested fixes.
  • We have one/two in-house fixes for it, not sure why we would list a package having couple of our own in-house fixes.
  • The pack is too big for our to list. And we don't like listing things on file hosting sites.
  • Why list so many fixes when 3 work fine? :)

OK, so - moving forward:

Suppose I replace NOD32 with Endpoint AV and have it make a mirror of it's updates - looking at their destructions, here: http://kb.eset.com/esetkb/index?page=content&id=SOLN3004&locale=en_US

Shows that in order for it to work it must also have their 'ESET Remote Administrator' app...?

And of course to have that it needs to be installed and somehow medicated - but I've found no mention of it around here.

Is that the only solution for mirroring & sharing updates between a few PCs, or is there a better way ?!?

Thanks.
