Dual-Display Problem

Dear Readers,

For the longest time, I've been using S-Video to watch things on my PC through the TV.

And just recently (Today) i bought my a DVI Cable, and that's when things went wrong...

Information:

-TV

^Mine isn't that exact, but features are basically the same

-Video Card: SAPPHIRE RADEON HD 4830 (Using latest Driver)

Using dual monitors for Dual-view and not Clone / Stretched.

Here's the problem...

In the Advanced Settings, before when using S-Video, there was an Overlay Option that I can just manually pan the monitor to fit my TV res at (1024x576), but when using DVI, that option isn't available anymore, and in not having it.. when I full screen my videos... basically it crops off a LOT from all sides of the video... And I don't want to manually use the Panning options in MPC, as that means if I watch things just on my Desktop, those black borders will show...

So not too sure what options I am not looking in to or what.. But having gottent he DVI Cables I don't want to not use them because of this reason...

In MPC I normally use "Stretch to Screen" which make sit so well do just that, but on the TV, it only gets chopped off more, opposed to "Touch windows fromt he inside" which sorta helps but then the left/right sides are cut off quite a lot still.

Not too sure what else I need to provide to troubleshoot this...

Resolutions that I've set the TV on, 1024x576 / 1280x768 / 1680x1050(This is my Monitors Res) / 1920x1080 and they all basically give me the same problems.

LOL

You tried switching the port, i mean plug your tv on the other port?

S-Video can go up to 1024/768 i dont see why you use 1024/576 before...

I think you dont have lots of options on the DVI output as it is provided AS IS digitally.

You could buy a scaller to help fit your screen but at the price of the thing i would check for a better TV.

In clone mode can your scale?

Have you googled you tv model, maybe its the problem.

MPC strech to screen probably have hard time recognizing the display.

Hmmm

Scratch the resoltuion lol, I mistyped the 1024x768 one.

Anyway, for the DVI... no way I sppending more to by a scaller.

In clone mode, what do you mean by scale it? Cause i know that I can do HDTV Support, which I would select 1080i30, and optimized at 1776x1000 because the 1920x1080 overstretches the video, and when I CUSTOM it (Adjust to a resolution I like), I notice that the Top/Right are able to fill the screen but the Bottom/Left has the black bars, so that tells me that the video originally isn't 'centered', but I can't seem to adjust any settings that will allow me to center it and then do the resolution change.

My TV Model is: WS-48413

But not too sure what I'm looking for to see what the problem is..

-Linky <- Says it is compatible with other (PC) inputs (Of DVI)

For MPC I've tried other options without any success, as I do want it to be full screen and not show black bars OR being overstreched.

Ehh knowing my friends, they all using either DVI/ HDMI and wouldn't have VGA.

EDIT:

Nvm I do have a VGA Cable BUT, not long enough, only about 4ft, when I need at least 15ft.

Um do you have a modern TV? I have tried it on my Old tv at home and it doesn't work, But yet on my 42" plasma it does...

I would think so... a little under 10 years, as it is HDTV ready, I'd consider that modern still.

Yes It would seem to be modern, I can't really see what you are doing wrong O.o

it's all in the TV settings, not the card...

1. open a widescreen movie and set the TV to display it with the corrent AR

2. now open a fullscreen movie and set the TV to display it with the correct AR

the TV itself should remember BOTH settings and switch between the two, depending on what's being displayed (that's how my 32in LCD is) :D

edit: and s-video is your ONLY option, did i read that right? no component or hdmi inputs? ;)

Or it may even be that you TV was made in the US and you are trying to do it with a UK Graphics cards or cable, This can be a good cause of why it won't work strangly.

@nsane: s-video would be my only alternative yes, as my TV doens't support HDMI, and vga is out of the question, given I already bought the DVI Cable via ebay so can't really 'return' it...

Well the thing about my TV is.. .if using DVI... I only have 2 AR options.. Standard / Zoom, and obvioiusly the zoom doens't do anything to help out.

@AshTheGamer: Hmm SAPPHIRE is a UK company? My cable shouldn't matter too much as my friend bought from same company as mine and his works just fine... but he isn't too sure why it isn't working correctly for me.

You could troubelshoot your stuff by bringing your cables to his house and try it on his TV. If it works well your cables are good, then you bring your computer to his house to test it with your cable on his tv. If everything work fine the TV problem.
