how many companies other than Apple head office and Apple stored use apple computers and software tun the brass tacks of their company...as i said...the biggest reason companies choose not to move up to win7 or win 8 is that they way too much invested with software that they know will not work on windows 7 and 8...that combined with the fat that companies do not need to get a new cell phone for every employee or OS when they come out to upgrade thousands or more new computers every 6 months like the general public thinks they personally have to...cost involved for large company to do this is the reason why they still run XP..as I said, my company recently updated internet explorer form version 6 to 8...and the associated update for outlook was similar..so coming form home where i have the newest crap on my computer to work where it is outdated is at best maddening

I honestly think that the problem with Windows 8 is its monopolizing UEFI bootloader and its non intuitive UI. I'm supposed to just type a program name and know that it will pop up? I'm supposed to know that if i swipe in from the corner that an application bar will pop up? No. If i can't see it, I might never know it is there. Fullscreen apps? NOO. The whole idea of the window came about to visualize apps running alongside each other and easily managing simultaneous processes. Windows without windows is just Microsoft OS.

as many said; some companies and individuals till today still running on XP and just migrating to win7 therefore to migrate to win8 will take time as things happened to windows7 plus don't forget the disadvantage MS has in the market is the fact it is the only fair company which entitles you to uninstall windows if you do not like it and run Linux or any other software however companies such as APPLE or ANDROID force you to use their software and most likely the public is enjoying the features of the hardware more than the software yet it scores a + on reports that this device does not run MS windows

MS rules 4ever; someone convince me how millions or trillions of companies and individuals will switch MS office overnight to something else; not in 3 decades if not more that keeping into consideration we are labelling MS office a failure even.

Windows being open from start (allowed to uninstall and stuff) is true. However, things aren't so bright anymore. Microsoft forces all the OEMs and motherboards to come with UEFI or they won't be allowed to sell products with Windows on it. That's not it, originally, if I'm not mistaken, Microsoft had also made a rule that all of them should come with secure boot enabled by default, for which, after the public outcry, was changed to just for tablets, meaning, the OEM and MOBO manufacturer had to decide themselves.

And lets not forget what UEFI secure boot does, makes it almost impossible to install any older version of Windows and until recently, any Linux either (I don't consider Mac OS worth mentioning). Not so open here, is it?

I'm not sure about iOS, but if you manage to hack Windows (which is not easy thanks to Microsoft's closed source nature) and root an Android phone, installing Windows on a phone is very much possible, quite unlike how it's next to impossible to install Android on a Windows Phone or a UEFI secure boot protected tablet.

It doesn't end there, as I mentioned, one needs to enable UAC and probably also sign in via Microsoft account to be able to download metro apps, otherwise it's a total no. Android never asked me to un-root my phone or enable some sort of UAC to allow me to download apps from Google Play.

As for Microsoft Office, well, it's a different story. No one might ever come near it or beat it.

reports does not proof anything; give me a report on how many unofficial people running the unlicensed cracked windows 8 and add it to the above results and let's speak then

This report is not from Microsoft. Meaning, this includes unlicensed cracked windows versions. ;)

appreciate your comments however I am not mixing two issues: one issue is analyzing windows as a desktop OS and the second part is being into tablets; to start with comparing the other OS to MS at the first place is inappropriate because MS only launched their tablets in recent 6 months with the windows RT therefore to compare 3 years or so of Apple, Android and all other OS which have been around in the market on tablets and rightfully they are leaders in the market if not for their great functionality at least to say because they were first in the market and all what the public had to buy because MS did not start the tablet market and is only a followup to a trend which went viral and the most important point to note here is that customers of tablets are not experts in computers so they are the not the type that would understand or go for the point of uninstalling OS on their tablets to run their best preferred one atleast not the majority and that is why tablets will only be for end users and not developers or professionals and will never suit a desktop user and it will interest me how long they will survive looking at how quick every couple of months now we get a new ipad or Samsung S phones

Then my next point comes to all issues everyone is raising against windows8 as an operating system for desktop PC's; without undermining your comments above however how can you proof that the report includes the cracked unlicensed windows version because I find that hard to believe and even if true rightfully is great and I can explain why without even asking someone to pull out actual facts that these statistics are based on desktop PC's only and not mixed with tablets; the fact is that the general public today follows fashion and is related to my first point above that most of the world public who buys tablets are end users because not so many are the type who need or use a desktop like the majority of us in this forum who are experts and follow details on software, cracking, codes, etc. so the number of home users today installing windows 8, 7 or even XP is less than 10% as a rough estimate; the biggest chunk of desktop PC users remain in the market today are left mainly for corporations, companies, trade, airports, etc. and yes they all still run on XP if not windows 2000 funnily at some points of the world.

hope I am able to make some point above which is to divide how the reporting of such facts need to be made in articles because rightfully they are unnecessary giving bad reputation not only to microsoft but they are not also giving the right facts per market share per OS and per type of business

I too appreciate a mature conversation. :)

While Microsoft newly coming into the tablet market might be correct. The problem isn't it being new here, the problem is it being an big failure. No tablet except Surface RT (which is not as convincing) and Surface Pro (which is kinda expensive) have managed to catch any public eye whatsoever. Other tablets are such a big failure that companies like Samsung has stopped selling Windows 8 tablets in many countries. My point here is that, Microsoft being new to tablets is not a biggie, but inspite of 6 months into it, it has failed to make any major impact on it. I'm saying this inspite of the major "Microsoft Windows" logo on it. While most of the tablet users being computer noobs (loosely speaking) is true, I haven't met anyone (except Microsoft fanboys) who aren't turned off by the Metro UI, may it be regular computer users or irregular ones.

Statscounter way to checking for the statistics makes it fully, 100% possible for it to include both genuine and non-genuine users. As I said, this is not Microsoft stats, they (Statscounter) don't check how many users have activated Windows and how, they check how many are using it, which can be checked irrespective of license of the OS. This shows that on PCs, not many are interested in Windows 8. I must mention though, unlike other statistics based orgs, Statcounter is aimed generally at all the internet users, and the statistics reflect that they aren't interested. And infact, Windows 7 is still doing quite good in the common internet users territory.

windows 8 here... i boot straight to desktop... the other option is kind of sort tailor made for touch screens(isn't it) and my notebook ain't got that touch option so why would i want to use it... had to down load software to get to that option..really surprised that option was not built in for users... that being said... apple has their own market and nothing will touch the iphone, ipad and ipods or for that matter ever come close to what they do. I know so many people that have a blackberry for work and an iphone for personal use...they keep the blackberry for years because for what they do with it for work, it just simply just works and works well...but they change iphones with every single new model that comes out and will stand in line for hours to do so(but never , they say will they ever use their iphone for work applications) ..

thanks for the mature understanding and response DKT27

If there is anything I hated about windows 8 is the change in LOGO because being a leader you can change certain things but not the one thing everyone can identify you with

for instance imagine if Apple change their logo to a banana!

I had [urlhttp://www.nsaneforums.com/topic/164308-microsoft-toolkit-v243/?p=557149]made a representation of how Windows logo should have been. :)

lol. :tehe:

I like it actually and very true; I felt the current blue one on windows eight reminded me of 80's style of logos, very basic and intermediate

It's actually true that Windows 8 wont be able to keep up with Vista (in the uptake stakes) due to a reason that does belong to the credit of Vista - the rightful credit goes to Windows 7 (Vista did not have to contend with Windows 7 during it's own uptake.) ;)
