ESET v4 Fixes

But if it locks ESET out of the registry, why does the trial still need to be reset?

And I think you can suppress that message if you only change the permission of the key that contains the trial date, or would that be impossible?

Is there an option to have full or partial Self-defense functionality?

I'm working on a description of your and mara-'s fix, so I need to know all information that's available(either by PM or posting in here, whichever you prefer).

I can't seem to get the "box4ever" one, it says the file is missing...

I wasn't able to download it either so I deleted it and uploaded it again. And I still can't download it afterward. Still getting the same error. I will wait later to test it again. I think that I'm being banned from mediafire.

-------------------------------------

I got it from Mediafire, Box.

1st manual update ( 19 060 KB ) took exactly 30 minutes ...Bah ! Normally takes 60 seconds ! Again Eset servers overloaded.

ESS 4.0.314 + Box4Ever 4.01A : Installation done, says trial LOCKED; on"About" shows "trial version expires in 31 days". Let`s see if it updates automatically...maybe only tomorrow.

---------------------------------------

Thanks again, BOX

@mara

I currently have two real-world - Not VM - PCs running WinXP Pro SP3 32bit with ESS v4.0.314 installed along with the mara-fix and Self-Defence is enabled and seems to be working correctly (it prevents me importing any new ESET settings from a reg file) they have both been running since last Friday it did seem that up to this afternoon the days were not counting down on either machine but that has just changed :P

One machine has version 1.4 of your fix along with two Windows schedules that were part of the Vadim-Fix, on this the trial previous to today wobbled between 30/31 as you'd expect from older versions of ESS and box/mara fixes. Today the days have suddenly dropped to 28days! :(

The schedules reset the trial via the registry at startup and at 12:00. If the registry is protected I'm not sure how these schedules could have been doing anything at all!, but how come the days wobbled between 30/31days since last Friday to today? :s Should your fix create an event in the Windows scheduler? if so what would it be? because I only seem to have the schedules I have set myself.

On the other pc I think I used v1.3 of the mara-fix? (if not 1.3 it would have been 1.2) and I have also used the registry trick from the ru-board fix where the Info part of the ESET registry settings has a Deny in Permissions applied. On this machine the trial has kept constant at 30days without having the usual 30/31day wobble. The days were on 30days when I set the Deny in the registry and it has held there since.

Both machines are receiving updates without any problems, at the moment both have sig 3954 (20090323).

The ru registry trick differs from the one used by box and whilst preventing the current sigs value to be shown from the system tray icon it does NOT create any errors to be shown when adjusting ESS settings after the fix has been applied! ;)

I'm currently liking the mara fix ;) It is easy to install and you do not need to have .NET Framework on your puter to install it.

If mara could add an option in his fix to place a Deny key in the registry I reckon that would seal it for me! (it would be nice if this was an option rather than compulsory)

The only modification I would like to see applied to the ru-board part of the fix is rather than the word latest being used to describe the sigs version, it would make more sense to say "Open ESS Window for Sigs Version" ;) (providing the popup has room for a description of that length?)

DOH!!! :s :(

Literally as I am typing this the machine with the ru-board fix has just dropped to 29days!! :( I am sure I spotted a fading update flag from ESS, but I know it already had the latest sigs so could not have been updating them! So looks like both my attempts to hold the trial days have failed, but how/why have they remained static for so long? :s

I have so far not had any requests for username/password myself, however a friend I spoke to that was still using NOD32 2.7 had been getting it intermittently up to last week? (he lives in the same town as me) I checked which update servers he had and could not see any that were not current? He had the need to update to ESS3, and since upgrading updates have since been happening without issues.

Could the U/P just be because the servers are still overloaded?

Hey mara, have you only just been made a ViP on the board? a think we've always known you were a ViP? ;)

Cheers

Really nice testing work Hoca.

The mara-fix is supposed to reset your trial at every reboot when Self-defense is ENABLED. If it is DISABLED then it will reset your trial every reboot AND every day at 12:00, the 1.5 fix will automatically uncheck the task in the ESET scheduler if Self-defense is ENABLED. The 1.4 fix doesn't do this yet. So the scheduler task does not work with Self-defense ENABLED(this is noted in the readme ;)).

I have yet to try any of box's fixes, but as you guys are releasing updates at this rate it'll take me ages to test everything :P

try compressing it as .7z and reupload to mediafire

OR

rename then upload again at mediafire... (sometimes, mediafire fails us)

May I correctly uninstall mara-fix 1.4 using mara-fix 1.5?

Just to reinstall 1.5 on a PC that I already fixed with 1.4

Hello.

What I have done is... starting with 1.1 fix, use an excluded folder. At each of the fix updates, downloaded to that folder, I have disabled NOD32, ALL modules, removed previous fix from its uninstaller, install the new fix, finally, reboot. As I have no dedicated internet, I have not been able to test automatic updates, but all else seems to work properly with manual updates. Try it out.

To the gurus, I have one concern. Prior to using any of the fixes, I manually added the genuine server list 20-49 in the update drop down box. I have not noticed any subsequent problems. Should I clear that out?

Thanks again for the excellent work.

Anyone got automatic updates with fixes done ? Thanks for replying .

@ mara & jofre,

After running genuine 30days Trial Version of ESSv4 for 16days, yesterday I installed mara-fix_1.5 - following all the instructions on the front-page to the letter. I had no previous Eset fixes of any kind on the system nor any previous versions of Eset software ( I use to have ZASS).

Installation was without any problems & self-defense was automatically re-enabled after re-boot.

Remaining trial period: 15 days became 31days icon6.gif

Automatic update: non-available (yesterday) after installing the fix

" " : had to do manual update today - after 3 or 4 attempts

Latest status: @ approx 1900hrs

Virus signature database: 3955 (20090323)

Update module: 1028 (20090302)

Antivirus and antispyware scanner module: 1199 (20090321)

Advanced heuristics module: 1092 (20090309)

Archive support module: 1091 (20090213)

Cleaner module: 1039 (20090320)

Anti-Stealth support module: 1010 (20090302)

Personal firewall module: 1044 (20090121)

Antispam module: 1011 (20090114)

System status module: 1210 (20090306)

Self-defense support module : 1005 (20081105)

Will wait & see if automatic update happens tomorrow.

One question: Is there any difference between Trial Version & Full Version icon14.gif

Also, on the GUI is there any way to get rid of the links to "Purchase Full Version" & "Upgrade to Full Version"

However, thanks very much toking.gif mara for your pirate2.gif

Will let you know about the auto-update tomorrow.

Thanks mara.

But to disinstall, do we have to reboot betwen the "fix run to uninsinstall" and the "fix run to re-install" or may we uninstall and immediately after reinstall?

May we also have your reply to this TxB post? :D

can i know how to uninstall mara fix if needed?

Just run the fix again and it will offer you to uninstall.

Does it revert all the changes, including registry entries, files, any system service that was started, etc?

Does it leave anything behind?

It might not be necessary, but I would recommend you to do so. An extra reboot will never hurt(except for when your system is infected with a virus, in that case it could just kill you(or well, your PC)).

To nudge back to my earlier Post #654

When a pc equipped with the mara-fix has not been restarted for more than 24hours, has anyone else noticed that the trial days are not clocking down in a uniform and predictable manner?

What is going on?

edit:

Just noticed the machine that I have with the ru-registry fix that had previously held steady at 30days since last Friday having dropped to 29days a few hours ago has now dropped to 27days!!

This is crazy! :s

Hello all, i tried mara fix 1.5 with the trial, like mo husen described, it took 5 manual tries to install an update, and i dont think it will do it auto, unless the auto is capable of trying over and over again, which i doubt eset would want to have their servers hammered by leechers.

Anyways, is nodlogin as demanding to use as marafix? Where can i get the retail version of nod32 v4 for use with nodlogin, all i see are trials on the piratebay.

edit: when i stuck in a user name and pass i got off some site, "upgrade to full version", it started to automatically download some thing called "EM002_32_Io.nup". Im guessing its a module upgrade, so something to consider doing if you want use marafix. dont know how long this will last till my key gets blacklisted though.

When I used nodlogin, I didn't find it to be at all demanding. Very convenient and I preferred using a retail version than the trial and getting updates more reliably.

One way to get a retail version is download it from eset's site using a UN & PW obtained from the "license grabber" (I think that's what it was called) available on the front page of this site (at least it was last time I looked).

Just wanted to mention to that the trial download link on here is reporting a different filesize than the version you can get directly from eset. Use at your own risk.

@whipple

Given this is your first post don't you think it may be worth looking through the board for descriptions of how to apply and use fixes coz all the info has already been typed

Firstly mara-fix is not demanding at all.

It is normal to have to manually knock on the door umpteen times when you first install the fix, from that point it should update automatically without problems. Although there can sometimes be a small delay in how quickly updates are shipped out via the trial servers I have never found it to be that noticeable.

@mara

How about including a readme with your fix for noobs?

There is one included, at least in the download we provide on the frontpage.

Anyway I'm working on a description of both mara-'s fix and box's fix and this will be added to the _Readme!.txt, the contents of this file will also be added to the second post(which I haven't updated in a long time, I confess).

It should be updated though.

The reason NodEnabler is no longer listed is because NodLogin doesn't require Self-defense to be disabled, so it's better.

The reason that the box fix hasn't been listed yet is because I honestly haven't had the time to really test it.

I'll see when I have time...

It would be nice if some of you could come up with some ideas on how to use the second post, I think we're only going to be providing NodLogin, mara-fix and box fix. I'll work on descriptions of those and all, but everything you can do will help.
