@mara-

Thanks for the new v1.2 fix and the detailed description of what it does, certainly sounds as if it ticks all the boxes! :D

@Box

"a list of eval servers in a drop-down should be easy to do."

You probably know anyway, but if not I upped a reg file /?kt03g2mjawt that adds the servers to the drop-down.

"The process of semi-self-defense is simple for XP but very dicey for Vista because of the built-in security"

Don't you just hate Vista! or more to the point UAC!! AKA Anti-Medicine-Util !! ;) lol

You two are surely spoiling us with your fixes! :D I will try both of the fixes and report back

Thank you to one and all for the fixes that are coming thick and fast!

Cheers!

Box Eset 4 Trial Reset 1.06A (Beta) ;)

Use this fix if you want 100% "Self-defense" and you restart your computer regularly. The trial date will reset every time you reboot your PC. One fix for both XP/Vista (x86 & x64). See my signature on how to download.

Changes:

1. Made the file 50% smaller.

2. Forces ESET to install the eval servers.

3. Added eval servers, directly from ESET, to the the drop-down list. The list is constantly updated when you restart your computer.

Thanks mara- for creating a new and improved fix :D Will try it out when I get back from school(hope I don't crash into any more windows today).

@shought:

What about ecchi-squad or speedshare?

Wtf is ecchi-squad??? :D

SpeedShare still doesn't support direct linking to the file ;)

Latest version of the fix: 1.5

General info of the fix:

- Converts commercial to trial version without any problem (requires first update manually);
- Adds all evaluation servers and activates option 'Choose automatically' between servers;
- Resets trial on every reboot and once daily if option 'Self-Defense' is disabled;
- Resets trial only on every reboot if option 'Self-Defense' is enabled (active).
- Works on Windows XP and all newer versions of Windows (x86 and x64)[tested by me on XP SP3 x86 and Vista Ultimate x64 SP1]

Changes in v1.5:

- Fixed bug that would cause error with Eset communication with kernel when user would answer 'No' on prompt by this fix to activate self-defense (I just forgot to do a service start when user answer 'No')

Changes in v1.4:

- Removed old Eset servers (I forgot to remove old servers, installing new version of the fix is recommended but not required)
- Solved problem with two reboots on Vista when this fix offers you to enable Self-Defense and user clicked 'Yes' (only once reboot is required now)
- Added Self-Defense check on every reboot (on every reboot it will be checked if self-defense is enabled, if yes entry in scheduler will be deactivated since it can not work with self-defense enabled, and if self-defense is disabled this entry will be automatically activated, thanks to shought for nice idea.)

Changes in v1.3:

- Fixed bug with automatic enabling Self-Defense by this tool (At the end of the installation this fix would offer you to enable self-defense. If you clicked Yes, only checkbox in Eset settings would be checked but Self-Defense would not be enabled. This is fixed in v.1.3 and it is working properly now.)

Note: It is recommended to use latest version of the fix, but it is not required. If you are using v1.1, then it is highly recommended to use the latest version.

thanks for the answer!

Anyway i decided to remove and reinstall Nod and trying with Marsufix. I added others servers via NodView but when i select (in the Nod options) to check the upgrade in a server, it asks me for the username and password.

Thats really strange,never had these problem.Tryed with other servers and gives me the same problem. These early morning upgraded to 3947 tho.

On the other side,ive no problem with the marsufix: restared the system and the numer is still at 30 days!

Thanks

Are the servers you've been adding .../eset_eval/ types?

If not you will be asked for a username and password.

Try using the regfile I made, that will insert the latest servers for you?

Thanks again you guys for the new fixes, won't have much time to try them today, but this evening I will install Box v1.06A and mara v1.3 and let you know how it goes?

I can see this being a tough call which fix to finally go with? :) How about you guys pooling your resources like you did last time with Box-Mara Fix1.4 = (auto) ?? What do you think?

Cheers

For now I recommend using mara-fix 1.3 :)

It's very clear what it does and what it doesn't.

About Fixes done by Nsane`s Members:

Mine is WinXP Prof.SP3 (32bits)

MARSU : Your " ETR 1.01" failed here, asking for username and password and couldn`t update; v.2.06 is OK to me.

MARA : Your fix 1.2 was OK to me and is THE MOST PERFECT. Now going to try latest 1.3 version

BOX : I was happy with your v.1.05A , but you decided to make a new one. Now have to try this latest v. 1.06A.

Many Thanks to all

Cheers.... :)

mara- I just installed it but it doesn't seem to add any update servers. I think it would at least look better(and I believe it to be working better as well) if the Update server list would show these update servers.

Also: if I enable Self-defense could you automatically uncheck the trial reset entry in the scheduler? Or would that be a bad idea?

Don't worry, servers are added to registry where they should be and it's better this way.

Well, that can be done only on installation of the fix. But if you read my Note2 for Vista you can understand that it is complicated. But, in my opinion there is no need for that, since reset.exe can not do anything if self-defense is active and this can't hurt anything and it's activated once daily only.

Cheers :)

EDIT: I can make it so reset.exe on every reboot check if Self-Defense is active and then activate or deactivate it in scheduler. Tell me if you want this and I'll do it.

Nah, not needed, if you have some spare time and you're bored then why not, but otherwise this is perfect :)

"Don't worry, servers are added to registry where they should be and it's better this way."

Could you please explain why it is better this way?

I've never understood why the major fixes have not added the servers to the drop-down list so users can easily see what update servers are on their system without them having to route through the ESET registry settings? :s

I think Box has just added servers to be visible in the drop-down list in his latest fix, hopefully this is the start of a healthy trend coming on! ;)

Thanks for your updated fix, I'll install it later and report back :)

So much to choose from. Box, Mara, Marsu? I'm using mara 1.1 fix atm and it works perfectly (self defence off though). Guess I'll try 1.3 after I switch from windows xp x86 to x64.

Unless someone can clearly state that one is better than the other?

To a novice they all seem to do the same.

Oh yeah and thanks for all the hard work :)

I am having problem with update,using mara_Fix 1.3. » (ESS4.0.314)

Is too slow and 25 minutes already gone. Already received info saying update had success but it still shows date 2009.o2.06 and nothing happened.Normally it doesn`t take more than 20 sec.,the first update.

Net connection in good conditions,very fast.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Now with Box 1.06A = Same conditions. ESET updating in slow motion- 1st manual Update.

I think I am going to wait for a better opportunity ...

Because Eset made it like that by default in their trial package and I did the same.

I noticed the same thing. Probably Eset servers are still overloaded.

Hi! Good :lol:`S

Finally could now manually update ESET with Fixes done by Nsane Members because a few hours behind servers were in slow motion.

Mine is WinXP Pro SP3 (32 bits)

Using ESS 4.0.314

Now I have :

1)= Backup with ESS and mara.Fix 1.3

2)= Backup with ESS and Box.Fix 1.06A

3)= Backup with ESS and Marsu.Fix 2.6

4)= Backup with ESS and Marsu.ETR 1.01

Only tomorrow I can say if all had automatic updates.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I suggest you download Marsu.Fix 2.6 and Marsu.ETR 1.01 from this link:-(some correction was done by the author)

Thank you jofre.

I just wanted to throw in here that I tried ru-board trial patch. And it works great....stays on 31 days trial at all times and auto & manual updates.

Also no need to worry about self-defense. Haven't tried any of the other fixes. But ru-board trial patch is an excellent choice.

Sry.. New ver 1.01.. a bug in the first one

:P :sorry:

question. is there any difference between updating over nodlogin or ETR trial? I mean, is there a module update on trials or only on retail?

Module updates are only automatic on retail. Also I believe retail gets priority when the servers are having problems, although even retail has problems sometimes.

Does this mean that module updates can be manually updated? By finding a module update and placing it in a folder and telling NOD32 to update from that folder? Explain please.

Also a separate question: If I install Smart Security but turn off the anti-spam and firewall modules, will it use the same amount of resources, excluding HDD space of course, as just installing the Anti-Virus edition alone?

I'm upgrading from v3 Antivirus to v4 Smart Security and have two questions:

1) I should uninstall v3 first, right?

2) Which fix should I use if I go between Marsufix 2.5 or Marsufix 1.3? Thanks.
