i have been using his guide and still effective. though before idm does not know how to modify thew host file.

That trend of removing their own server check entries from the hosts was initiated by Yamicsoft - with Windows 8 Manager.

Thereafter, a Reverse Engineer who creates portables implemented that trick on TuneUp Utilities and now it's IDM. :)

dcs18: Thanks for the information. The version posted on forum is 6.15 build 8.1. But I have downloaded 6.15 build 8.2 days before and I know that 6.15 build 8.3 has been released on 07 Apr 2013.

Generally, the IDM download link remains the same - it should return you with all the latest build.

Can you provide a screenshot for the 8.1 build - unfortunately my build is reflected as follows:-

That's the version of a particular element of IDM package, not the version of the whole package.

yes , i know that.

actually my post was not complete. while posting i was downloading retail setup from FP (coz obviously i use trial one)

when i uninstalled the trial one to install retail, it asked for reboot, after which i went to some work.

now i completed the post.

i have seen some repackers write file version as 6.15.8.3 which causes confusion, its nothing but signifies retail setup has been used foe repacking

see here

@november_ra1n

I followed your instruction in the text file to install IDM. However, I keep getting "fake serial" pop-up Windows. So, how did it go wrong?

Thank you for your help. :)

I have fixed the patch, tested on Windows 8 Pro 64 Bit there is no more fake serial display appear >>> #3

@november_ra1n

It really works! No more pop-up Windows. Thank you very much for your prompt assistance. :)

One question guys...
This was probably asked and answered before, but I can't find that info now.
So what is the difference between "standard" and "retail" version of IDM?

Also I've noticed they have different sizes and the "retail" version is not hosted on the dev's site.
Is it because of hosts patching or is it something else?

You're right, it was asked before...plenty of times actually and surprisingly, if you do a google search our forum is the one that comes on top lel.

But to answer your question, the trial is meant for testing while the retail is meant for customers.

When you buy it and get the mail, you're told to always use the retail.

Think of it this way, it's like how it is with UltraISO. You can't get the reg details to say on the trial but can safely register with them on the retail version so IDM is pretty much the same.

Now about the retail setup not being hosted on the site. That's incorrect, the file is hosted on the site but you can't get to it unless you've bought it.

The retail link looks like this

http://mirror2.internetdownloadmanager.com/commerce/bunchoflettersandnumbers/idman615f.exe
So unless you know the exact string of code, you can't get to it.

This patch dont touch "IDM.EXE" it just modifies HOST FILE and insert a license into registry.

Just install any version of IDM,

Whenever u need to update IDM , just click on "UPDATE" (this will clear host file entries) and download the new version +install overwrite

Run the patch again and enjoy!

@ ank91 IDM LIFETIME PATCHER & is not working in Windows 7 (X64). Host patching always failed despite the administrative privileged given. Consequently, IDM detected the fake user / Serial number upon starting.

  • Navigate to the "hosts" file
  • Go to properties and uncheck the read-only option.
  • Open the hosts file with notepad and copy-paste the following entries in it as the way they are:
# Internet Download Manager127.0.0.1 tonec.com127.0.0.1 www.tonec.com127.0.0.1 registeridm.com127.0.0.1 www.registeridm.com127.0.0.1 secure.registeridm.com127.0.0.1 internetdownloadmanager.com127.0.0.1 www.internetdownloadmanager.com127.0.0.1 secure.internetdownloadmanager.com127.0.0.1 mirror.internetdownloadmanager.com127.0.0.1 www.mirror.internetdownloadmanager.com127.0.0.1 mirror2.internetdownloadmanager.com127.0.0.1 www.mirror2.internetdownloadmanager.com127.0.0.1 www.mirror3.internetdownloadmanager.com127.0.0.1 mirror3.internetdownloadmanager.com127.0.0.1 174.133.70.101:443127.0.0.1 174.133.70.101:80127.0.0.1 174.133.70.98127.0.0.1 *internetdownloadmanager.com/data/395012712/register.cgi127.0.0.1 *registeridm.com*127.0.0.1 star.tonec.com127.0.0.1 rev.dyxnet.com
  • Save and close the notepad.
  • Go to properties of the same hosts file again and check the read-only box.
  • Generate a key from any keygen of IDM.
  • Register with the key with any name.

Now, the next start of IDM may detect fake credentials. If it does, register with the same key again.

What about registration? After entering the entries in the hosts file, will IDM get automatically registered?

That's just a one-time process, the first time - after editing the hosts file, use any serial from the KeyGen (just once) >>----> bang, it's done!!!

After that, one never has to fix IDM, again - just use the new full offline installer and install over the existing (older) installation.

Thanks for the great share and explanation DCS, but (and I hate to ask a totally nube question) could you please explain how to "use the new full offline installer and install over the existing (older) installation". In particular, now that the host file is blocking access to the IDM site, how does one get the newest file version and what is meant by "offline installer" and how does one get to that file?

Thanks in advance.

I've been preferring the Retail edition of IDM which you'll always find on the FrontPage - here's the download link:-

Just use the keygen posted on FP. That's it. If required, just block it via firewall.

Thanks DCS, as always you give a great explanation and show us newbies some of the tricks of the trade. You and folks like you really make this a great site, thanks for your many educational, enlightening and informative posts.

I just switched to your method for IDM and love it, now all I have to do is watch the front page for retail updates, thanks again.

I have been using POWERISO since version 4.6. After installation of POWERISO 4.6,I had used keygen and then blocked it via Firewall. After every release of new version i simply overwrite the installation and it showed me registered. but Yesterday when i was making bootable ISO of Windows 8 from extracted files and folder,it showed me error something like "unregistered version can not make iso of more then 300mb". when i checked the About info of POWERISO 5.5, it still showed REGISTERED. :(

That's why i was looking for entries of hosts file.

(I uninstalled POWERISO and then did a fresh Installation of POWERISO 5.5 and used keygen. It worked but i have doubt of blacklisting of key)
