I use idm hosts trick and still working.

Install IDM retail and use this hosts file:

Copy paste to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\[here]

Change attribute to Read Only.

I do not have the occasion to test any of the patches, KeyGens, etc., etc as I would feel stupid looking into the mirror (my IDM works without being cracked - it has been permanently . . . . . . . . . . . fixed.) It will never stop working. :rockon:

01.) Ensure the attribute of the existing hosts file is not Read-only

02.) Add the following IDM entries

03.) After saving the hosts file - change it's attribute to Read-only

What about registration? After entering the entries in the hosts file, will IDM get automatically registered?

are the responsible parts of online license check.

It removes all related URLs to license online check but keeps help files and this what have nothing todo with registration. The popup for license check will not more load.

I did some small changes but it will work 100% and no need to edit hosts files or firewall.

Even if the registration part will ever change it will never do online license check in future builds and recent builds

That's just a one-time process, the first time - after editing the hosts file, use any serial from the KeyGen (just once) >>----> bang, it's done!!!

After that, one never has to fix IDM, again - just use the new full offline installer and install over the existing (older) installation.

The beauty of the hosts method is that it forces IDM to accept and validate even blacklisted keys. ;)

How I wish we had faster internet speeds so that we won't need these stupid download accelerators in this day and age to max out a few kbps here and there :(

2 Mbps net sucks big time :mad2:

Even if you had ultra fast internet speeds, that wouldn't make any difference if your download uses only one connection.

Some sites give you one or few connection automatically, and browsers(other download managers) don't know how to search/find the mirrors to maximize the speed.

Firefox 20's built in downloader feels quite appealing. If the resume capability were supported by it, that will be awesome. What do you think, in future, won't they do that?

Yes, FireFox 20 built in downloader looks awesome, but like dcs18 said, it cant even be comparable to a massive substitute known as IDM :P

For me to abandon IDM, Firefox & other browsers need to implement:

• Way better resume capability
• Better management of downloaded files
• Better use of multiple connections to maximize the speeds
• Youtube video download?

the old patches still work well tested on win8 and 7 without any problems. I do believe the online license checks are not only in the program exe but in other parts, dll's too. If then a well done patch that only remove full the server online check url's/IP's clean not more as needed so that help and other features are still working otherwise can search and replace the domain in all program files from idm with one simple universal patcher for all times and no one need to edit anything but it isn't that easy. It will by first start by an update send ur ip to them server and log that u use it with an illegal number etc...

Don't worry - everything is gonna be alright.

Another wonderful advantage of the hosts method is that the fidelity and integrity of all your IDM installation files are retained with their original digital signatures - this protects your copy of IDM from being continuously scanned by your security system.

One, Firefox's build-in downloader has resume compatibility, not as great as IDM, but does. Infact, in some cases, I've found IDM, in rare cases, does worse than Firefox.

Two, it can never be a download accelerator with mirror/split downloads. Why? Because some file hosters hate them. Imagine, you open a file locker, you can't download from IDM because that site blocks it, now imaging the same happening with Firefox.

Yes, I've seen a tutorial on that. :)

But, the best results can only be obtained by a dedicated torrent client. I was using FDM once to download torrents. Download speed never exceeded beyond byte/sec :rofl:
