Dropbox is a storage application and service which enables users to store and sync files online and between computers. Dropbox has a cross-platform client (Windows, Mac, Linux and even Android) that enables users to drop any file into a Dropbox folder that is then synced to the web and the users' other computers with the Dropbox client. Files in the Dropbox folder may then be shared with other Dropbox users or accessed from the web. Users may also upload files manually through a web browser. A free Dropbox account offers 2 GB of storage. An additional 8 GB free storage space is possible from referrals (by inviting friends to join Dropbox).

Have reached the maximum on possible free space playing games, inviting people, etc... but a) after I hotlinked or shared a freeware file in to the public -- it was a Chromium Portable build -- they limited my account and disabled sharing functionality. B) Within the time passed by a year or two - I lost more and more files without that I have delete them. No thanks to Dropbox.

I've spend a lot of time to be with them up to pleased others to help me out with an edu email. It was all for nothing and wasted time by uploading with my slow internet speed. Just as by mediafire, after a year not one file survived even freeware. Not to talk about 4shared where I was have many downloads on a single file to get premium 6 months free. A small error, a wrong file in my account and the premium was gone within a week or two.

I'm since 2005 with bannedhost.to. Never had a problem but in 2010 they changed servers and the one where my files was hosted crashed. I good a good support telling me they tried all to recover the thousands of files in my account. It was the whole content of my web blog which is since then almost death cause of 404 without having a backup. Even if it will need a universe to upload and edit all posts over years. All later files are still there.

Dropbox does not have ftp nor WebDav. Even bannedhost.to have ftp.

3th party solutions exists on mass for dropbox but if you can not rely on them it is very useless and I don't want to trash my hdd full with dozens of different client software each for another Cloud-storage services only b'cause they don't offer ftp or webdav.
