It sounds like a problem with Windows Update, not adware. is there an error code? Google search the code and start from there. Windows Update has and can be a problem at times.

Search that error and if you still can't get Windows updates, scan with SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes. If Windows update STILL refuses to update, there are alternitives to updating Microsoft. Try out PatchMyPC (DIRECT DOWNLOAD HERE) if you need an alternative way to get updates, it also will search for outdated programs that may contain vulnerabilities or known exploits and update those programs as well to eradicate the chance of being a victim of malware or other exploits.

This may sound STUPID but before you go radical, go to Control Panel and open Folder Options and tell it to Reset Default. Restart the Computer. See if it will now update. I have had two friends who's computer would not update in the last year after resetting the Folders to Default they both updated. I do not know why????

PS: That was on two Windows 7 64bit machines. Not Windows 8

I think nobody looked inside the yellow rectangle. There is written "Find out more about free softwares from (null)". What kind of sense does it make?

BTW, I had windows update service disabled. So the message was displayed. After I have enabled the service, the "Find out more about free softwares from (null)" is gone.

A normal human being looks at what he wants to see - a Professional looks at the Customer's vision. :P

An old Indian definition of Customer:-

Jo kashth se ho jata hai mar - wahi kehlata hai Customer.

His link wont solve this issue - that post deals with the issue when updates fail despite setting the services on auto (clearly a different problem.) :)

Unknownasphyxiated was right. My link did have correct details. Yes it dealt with how to fix update services to start if they wouldn't, but how were we supposed to know if they were just not started or broken with the information that was provided. The link provided is a way to fix most update issues, and did contain your listed issue...."In Windows Vista/7, the Windows Update applet may show “Check for updates for your computer”, and “Find out more about free software from (null)”.

Sheesh sometimes people make it difficult for you to help them, and others just want to jump on the bandwagon and try make themselves look clever.

@ dcs18 "His link wont solve this issue - that post deals with the issue when updates fail despite setting the services on auto (clearly a different problem.) :)"

You'll find the link I provided contained the following... which would have started the service if it was stopped (after stopping it if already started and trying to create a fresh distribution).

net stop wuauserv

ren %windir%\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.bak

net start wuauserv

It's silly comments like yours that put me off helping people sometimes.

I was not asking for any help in my post. I was just wondering about the line inside the yellow rectangle as if it could be a ad-ware. I never told that it is a issue and I want help. I can fix that myself. But you did good, thanks for that, really appreciated :)

Never stop helping others due to what some may think or say - in fact, I've been through all your posts and I can see that in each one of those posts you have dedicated your time only in helping others . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . successfully. :)

So, don't feel let down - in fact, the Professional that I made a passing reference was to . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . you.
