Should I choose Geforce GTX Titan?

Hi
I have been waiting for a long long time to buy a high-end video card. (PLEASE don't say a gtx 680 or a 7970 is more than enough....etc. I don't want SLI or Crossfire, or Dual GPU cards due to problems with drivers/heat/place/Consumption/lags/crashes....etc. THANKS).

Now the Geforce GTX Titan is out (expensive I know). Reading a lot of reviews on the net didn't help me so much to decide to order one. Different conclusions/opinions especially about performance/price wise.

It has the same price as GTX 690 (which is faster than Titan), but it is a dual GPU card and I've heard there are a lot of problems with multi-GPU cards/systems in many games. People have a lot of problems with these systems.

I want a powerful SINGLE GPU card.

Anyone can tell if I should wait a little more for the next generation NVidia/Amd video cards, which we'll not see before Q4 2013, or just jump on one of these Titan SINGLE GPU monsters?

Thanks

I don't think they will release any new cards next time around, it will just be renamed Keplers from the Gtx 600 series. Buy the Titan if you want because the Titan was supposed to be the original 680 but due to problems in manufacturing the large chip it could not be released so the 680 uses a chip about half the size instead. The GTX 700 series or whatever they call it will definitely be rebadged Kepler cards from the GTX 600 series. It looks as through there might be a shortage in supply because I am now checking and the prices went up to 1500 USD when it was around 1000 at launch. If it were me I would wait till the price goes back down.

LeetPirate thanks for your reply. Yes, its true - the GK110 was supposed to be the GTX 680 and not GK 104. Just wondering if they will release a "optimized" GK 110 by the end of the year, something with more or less performance but less expensive than Titan (although I'm ready/prepared to pay for it)

Just stick with the GTX 600 cards... I know you don't like that response but they are WAAAAAAAY cheaper of course!

GTX Titan is just way too pricey... you can build a whole new computer for $1,000 USD (maybe even cheaper if you get lucky on some deals)!!!!!!

@beto:

Just wait for the price to go down. Who knows? You may see something else you want to buy.

The GF GTX Titan.

No doubt, this is the most powerful Uni-GFX card available till now and 6 GB of GDDR5 memory is more than enough.

7.1 billion transistors! That's the count of a dual GFX card but Titan, being single, houses that amount. So Titan is future-proof.

If money is no bar, then this is the one to have. It will never let you down with any games. Still, it will be good idea to wait Nvidia's next release to have Titan's price tag down.

Thanks rudrax. The only problem is that we will not see the next generation before the end of the year. It's a long time to wait till then....really don't know what to do

The next generation does not matter, they will be rebadged models from this same Kepler series. Waiting a whole year to get another Kepler is only wasting time, if you're waiting on a price drop well then that's a good reason to wait. The generation after the next one will be the next time they do major changes.

Leet is right. As I have already told that it is future proof so you need not to wait for the next release. This kind of single powerful GFX card that challenges dual GFX card are usually becomes the only one of its kind. Do you remember any single GFX card that has been released till now with the transistor count of a dual GPU? I guess, no. A card having this type of specs are exceptional and comes costly and thus they can't be popular accompanying less demand and reducing the production. So, I don't think, in future, Nvidia will make this type of cards frequently. May be they will after 5 years. And 6 GB of burning GDDR5! You can never utilize that amount fully, at least, for the next 5 years.

So, have it if you can afford it.

LeetPirate & rudrax Thanks. I guess you are right. I needed some advice and others opinions before deciding what to do. You helped me a lot and I have made my mind now. I'm going to buy one of these monsters (love Asus brand, even though everyone is using Nvidia's reference design so all TITAN's are the same, except EVGA GTX Signature Superclocked , as far as I know).

Thank you again
