IE 10 on Win7 x64 always runs in 32 bit?

Anyone know how to make IE 10 on Win 7 x64 run in 64 bit mode? Even if I start IE 10 from the 64 bit Program Files folder, task manager lists it as iexplorer.exe*32 & clicking on "go to file location" brings you to the Program Files (x86) folder location.

Well you have to enable "enhanced protection mode" in internet options under advanced tab within security option.

after enabling it you will have to restart the PC.

this is the only workaround mentioned even in MSDN blog. but after doing this i found 2 instances of IE 10 running, one under 64 bit mode and the other in 32 bit.

This wasn't the case in IE 9 when there was a clear cut option of IE 64 bit in start menu & a dedicated 64 bit process

Even without doing that there are two processes running, regardless of which folder IE 10 is started from. Odd. The reason I say it's still 32 bit is because all of the plugins still work when it's supposedly x64. In IE 9 the same plugins were disabled when using the x64 version.

Right from the time IE released 64-bit version, it uses one version old engine backend. Hence, it's never recommended to use the 64-bit version of IE.

That only applies to IE9. IE10 x64 engine is updated.

That's good to know. :)

However, it doesn't apply to IE9 only, as far as I remember, even IE8 had an older engine.

Not for me. I have upgraded IE9 to IE10 and IE10 start always in 64 bit mode in my windows 7 x64.

Here too, running IE10 on 64bit native mode.

Screen shots of it running in x64 native mode? Did you check task manager and make sure that there aren't 2 instances of iexplorer running? One 32 and one 64?

Edit: Even in my Firewall, the created rule is for the IE10 in Program Files (x86), even though I open it specifically in the x64 folder. Deleted the firewall rule and tried again to make sure, and again it created a rule for the 32 bit version regardless of where I open IE10 from.

I think Internet Explorer 10 in Windows 8 runs on the native 64bit one too... I check in new Task Manager and it just says "Internet Explorer" as the process.

could you post a screenshot of task manager?

I have checked everything and came to conclusion that one process runs in 64 bit, other in 32 bit always in win 7

It's running both the x86 and x64 with x64 is on the top of the running process. Check with Process Explorer.

Just installed IE 10 (manually - couldn't wait for the sluggish windows update to appear), and it has iexplore.exe *32 process on 64-bit Win7

The thing is that IE 9 had it also, so I don't see what's the problem? It could be related to addons being 32-bit but it still showed iexplore.exe *32
