Keyboard Lights Dim Out, Computer Shuts Off on ASUS laptops

Does anyone know why this happens? All the sudden you can be doing anything and it happens....

First the backlights on keyboard dim out and turn off... then the computer auto powers down on its very own (WITHOUT human interaction required)...

Cant find ANY INFO on this anywhere... maybe someone can help....

Happens on ASUS Laptops (such as the G Series machines) that feature backlit keyboards on them as far as I know.

Usually a sign that your power supply is being sucked of too much power and going into shut off mode.

1. Clean all of your air vents to the laptop.

2. Put two plastic bottle caps under the back feet to promote air circulation.

3. See what processes are running on your PC that is taking up over 30% CPU resources and shut them off.

4. Turn off all unnecessary applications.

Switch off the laptop and then detach the battery completely from the laptop - try using it exclusively on power for a while; to observe whether the issue recurs. If it does, you have a battery problem (possibly even a short anywhere on the circuit board.)

If it does not - check the following thread from this post onwards:-

Not sure how that's going to help if its battery related or not.... since you tell me the battery has to be removed lol!

Maybe this is just not a known issue pointed out to ASUS yet.... IF I could get a video of it happening, I WOULD, but it happens randomly.... but it usually only happens when I am not doing any games so therefore its pretty hard to get a video of it

If you wont try - you can be sure that you'll continue to remain unsure. :D

I am just betting this issue is very well unknown to ASUS themselves...... we need to somehow get this pointed out to them so they can possibly fix it!

BTW I have the driver that runs the backlights on the keyboard up to date (according to the software download page) and I believe ASUS makes it themselves.... its called ATK Package version 1.0.0026.

I remember not too long ago I was in a similar situation - whether to employ Windows 8 or to wait for Windows 9 (or perhaps the rumored Windows Blue.) Maybe, even bring the Windows 8 flaws to the notice of Microsoft.

Sorry, I don't gamble, it doesn't get done that way, besides - I didn't want grow older before I started enjoying worldly pleasures.

However, maybe in your case you wouldn't mind waiting for ASUS to fix it - perhaps they'll TeamView with you, huh. :naughty:

go to service center .... I think it is hardware problem ....

OK if it is then how come it has happened to me on a G55VW series and now a N56V series laptops eh?! They are TWO different series of laptops... so try and answer that!

Before I leave this thread, I'd like to just make a little suggestion:-

When asking for assistance it pays if the head is held low - ensures that one does not have to kneel down and embrace slavery.

Now, coming back to your specific issue - if you knew everything we wouldn't be having to discuss what we are, would we? Counter-questions are counter-productive - all my very best (you'll need the luck.) ;)

hey !!! go to service center and ask them questions about your problems .... here you can only get different answers and suggestions instead of this why you don't go to service center

dcs18's first point is very valid IMO. Remove the batteries and run on power. It gives a very good idea about the problem.

Really? Really? Dude, you asked us a question. We gave you honest un-sarcastic answers to your question. You want to bite the hand that feeds you?

OK, here you go.

ASUS has embedded software into their BIOS to detect the use of illegal software that does not comply with the TOS of you buying their equipment. Thus, in turn, they can track you where ever you are with the hidden computer ID that is embedded within the core BIOS that is unchangeable because there is a hardware CRC check that the POST secretly does every time you boot up.

If you wish to solve this issue, you must first wipe-out your HD and re-install the original OS that came with it. Then you have to go to ASUS's home page. Follow the official links to Microsoft's sales department to legally buy the operating system that you wish to run on your hardware. Make sure that the hardware is 100% compliant with the operating system that you wish to use.

After you have complied with ASUS TOS on properly upgrading an operating system. You must then email ASUS security team digital scan of all the receipts of all the software that you legally obtained. Then the security team will have to consult the Department of Justice to make sure that you have complied with their rules and regulations.

Then after all of that is done, ASUS will quietly install an update on your laptop to remove the flag on your BIOS so you can use your laptop as normal.

I really hope this helps you with your predicament as no one else in the forum will probably help you now because you was being an ass when the offered you help. (My apologies to the forum if this does not apply to you)

This is really too funny... every company would do that if it was possible to decrease software piracy and whatever else you may think of... LOL!

Honestly, I could really care less if anyone helps me or not... was just pointing out an issue that someone else may have heard of to get some feelers out there or so they can keep a look out to see if happens on more than one brand.
