searchindexer.exe app crash

Whenever I run CCleaner, there is always an error log about the searchindexer.exe crashing. To be honest, I don't even know what this is. I looked online how to fix it and it said to run a chkdsk, but I ran that tonight and the same error is still occurring. Can anyone help with this? Here's the Event Viewer:

That's because CheckDisk has got nothing to do with that error which is about indexing going on in the background and locking a file that CCleaner wants to but is unable to clean.

Can anyone help with this?

There are either of 2 ways to go about it:-

  • You may disable the Windows Search service, or
  • You may leave it at default in which case - bring up Indexing Options (by typing indexing at the Start Menu) and then get into the Advanced Options and Modify your exclusions in such a way that only directories where you do really use the search function is retained.

dcs18 is right.

Personally, I'd disable Windows Search and leave it that way.

You'll be surprised at how large the Windows.edb file it creates is.

Located at %ProgramData%\Microsoft\Search\Data\Applications\Windows\

That rule was just added to the new Winapp2.ini today.

The only way CCleaner can clean it is if the service is stopped.
