xpmule
http://googlesystem.blogspot.com/2012/07/igoogle-will-be-discontinued.htmlGoogle Will Be DiscontinuedGoogle's personalized homepage will no longer be available starting from November 2013.The official explanation is that "with modern apps that run on platforms like Chrome and Android, the need for iGoogle has eroded over time".iGoogle startedas a custom Google homepage that allowed you to add gadgets forweather, news, mail and more. "The goal of this initiative is to bringtogether Google functionality, and content from across the web, in waysthat are useful to our users," explained Google in 2005.Just like My Yahoo, Netvibes and other custom start pages, iGooglebecame a dashboard that gathered your favorite content from the web. Itwas a simplified feed reader, a platform for mini-apps and games, agreat homepage for your browser. Social networks and smartphonesaddressed most of these use cases and iGoogle's popularity declined. Most likely, Google will promote Google+ as an iGoogle replacement, eventhough it lacks many of its features. Google+ apps, themes and maybeeven a dashboard-like interface could fill iGoogle's void.iGoogle is not the only Google product that will be discontinued. GoogleMini, Google Talk Chatback and the Symbian Google Search app will nolonger be available, while the videos uploaded to Google Video will beautomatically be migrated to YouTube starting from next month. "GoogleVideo stopped taking uploads in May 2009. Later this summer we'll bemoving the remaining hosted content to YouTube. Google Video users haveuntil August 20 to migrate, delete or download their content. We'll thenmove all remaining Google Video content to YouTube as private videosthat users can access in the YouTube video manager," mentions Google. You can manage the videos uploaded to Google Video using this page.Posted by Alex Chitu at 7/03/2012 02:55:00 PMSo since the clock is ticking..Does anyone use this and what are you planning on replacing it with ?currently i'm using mostly, http://www.google.ca/ig?aig=0&refresh=1(refresh gets added if you don't put it in)which is the older version of the page (looks a bit different)But there is a newer verson too, http://www.google.ca/igI have for years used it with a few RSS feeds and Google Bookmarks and a Weather Canada box for my city.Combined with the FF greasemonkey script "Google Enhanced Black" my home page looks great (its black with blue highlights)(i also have black search results with google and use another script to kill the google preview garbage)No idea what i'm gonna do for my home page when the time comes.. I have seen a couple suggestions when i looked before but they sucked :(I can't believe they are killing this home page service wtf !!!
