Toshiro
Just try changing the resolution. When did the problem start? You remember what you changed about your pc before the problem appeard? (installed something etc etc..)Made sure your GPU is good connected and dustfree? Just some extra details can help :)--also, if u skip the Metro screen, is your problem solved? calguyhunk
Are you using any start menu replacements? Maybe that could be the problem then

Then, wait until Kaspersky Pure freezes Windows 7 - nuke Windows 7 Then, wait until Kaspersky Pure freezes Vista - nuke Vista Then, wait until Kaspersky Pure freezes XP - nuke XP Then . . . . . . . re-install Windows 8 Long life Kaspersky Pure.
avmad
I had similar. I upgraded and kept everything instead of a fresh install as W7 was recently installed. It turned out (as far as I could tell) to be Stardock Fences. After I installed Fences 2 everything so far is working. I also replaced Startisback with Stardocks Start8 which may have helped also
POOTERMAN
I've suffered the same problem on my own PC and have been called out to fix many other PC's that have suffered the same error of having a black screen after booting up and being unable to display the new ModernUI Start Screen interface.I spent many many hours trying to work out what had caused the problem and after doing lots of online research in various forums I discovered many people have also suffered the exact same problem! The problem was initially experienced by people that had modified their default Windows theme using apps such as UXStyle theme patcher etc as Microsoft released a Windows Update KB2770917 which reset the users modified theme files back to default which for some reason resulted in a black screen after the windows boot logo with only the white mouse cursor visible on screen. Other uses had installed applications from Stardock (Start8 and Decor8) and experienced the same problem due to having had modified theme files installed prior to installing the latest WIndows updates. The easy solution - Before you install the latest round of Windows updates, make sure you uninstall any UXtheme patcher you may be using, Stardock's Start 8 & Stardocks Decor8 Start screen customizer. The clear message from many users is that these 3 apps will "break" Windows and your PC won't boot to the desktop after restarting. You can of course re-install all the apps listed above AFTER you've installed all the currently available WIndows updates and then also re-patch your Windows Theme files using UXStyle etc.Hope this helps explain why you (and so many other people including me!) suffered this annoying problem - thanks to Microsoft ;)

calguyhunk
Pooterman's explanation and hence the subsequent solution that he lays out is the most likely one, methinks :think:Had to be a start menu replacement as I had said earlier ;) But some of you have to realize that SiB is not the problem IMO. Startdock's programs are extremely resource hungry and unnecessary bloat. This time 'round it may have been MS's fault, but in general, Stardock's flagship dock itself is terrible bloatware, and other programs get from bad to worse. I cannot imagine Start8 to be much different :nono:SiB on the other hand doesn't even install a different service or anything. Just loads one extra little dll (MS's own code from win7 - SiB itself is more like a hook than anything else to the best of my understanding) and incorporates that into explorer.exe. Safe, simple and inexpensive
