how to install windows xp in a laptop with previous OS is windows 7?? it said that it didn't find any hard drives. i had downloaded nlite, sata driver for compaq, and did the trick with nlite, but it is still failed. is there any solutions or other tricks? my father's notebook is quite old, so maybe it will be at a good performance if it is in windows xp, although the minimum requirement is passed

Yeah your are right. If you are experiencing problem with w7 in that notebook, you should go for a downgrade.

So, is that notebook still running with w7, I mean, you can boot with w7, right?

So your HDD is fine. So you tried installing from USB flash drive instead of CD?

Is the SATA mode in your BIOS set to IDE instead of AHCI ?

Depends, what BIOS you are using. Look for options that could be changed to IDE from AHCI

yup..set it to IDE and try installing xp.

Don't forget to save the settings before you exit the BIOS

Good luck

it seems when i click F10, it enters bios options, just time and date, boot order, diagnostic log. there are no specific configuration appeared

bios said in some menus cannot be changed in user mode , must contact system supervisor, and i don't understand what is it

ahh.. so complicated -__-

Ah man! It seems pretty old BIOS. I have formatted some Acer laptop with this method which weren't detecting HDD at the time of formatting. Will look more into this tomorrow. If you find some solution till then, good luck with that.

Sorry, but I wouldn't recommend that. Some certain changes in the BIOS is asking for system supervisor. So deleting the partitions won't act like a system supervisor who is supposed to have the right to change the IDE<->AHCI option, I guess.

some discussion about it here
yeah, I think everyone would have the same problem like you whenever they want to switch back to xp from win7.
just follow what rudrax told you, I think that the first step you must follow. :)

Sorry, didn't mean to gate-crash your chatroom. It simply means that someone has knowingly or unwittingly password-protected your BIOS.

Generally, there are 2 levels of possible password protection - Supervisor and HardDisk.

i've downloaded two different F6flpy32.exe, extract the files, copy the driver iaahci.inf with nlite, but none are success. ahh i've wasted 5 CDs -____-

or maybe anyone can find me a proper driver? this laptop is compaq presario v3700, bios is phoenix f.2a , motherboard is winstron 30CD (U2E1) , chipset is intel GM965

pure xp installation CD cannot detect the harddrive, in internet shows that you can fix it by slipstream sata drivers to xp installation using nlite. till now, xp cd still cannot read the sata drives. maybe the drivers i downloaded is not suitable for this laptop

Give a try by creating a bootable USB flash drive of win xp.

pure xp installer or modified installer?

Give a try by creating a bootable USB flash drive of win xp.

pure xp installation or modified installer?

Download WinsetupFromUSB

Insert your XP CD to the drive

Run WinSetupFromUSB choosing the correct one for the type of winXP that you have (x86 / x64)

Do the rest as shown exactly in the image below:

Capture.png

Now in the BIOS, make sure that the following options are enabled:

Boot other Devices - Yes

Change the boot sequence to keep USB flash drive option on the top

Save and exit the BIOS

Now plug the created USB drive in and proceed.
