However it comes in MKV format and my DVD player only supports DivX files from a USB Thumbdrive.

How can I convert this easy and fast with the greatest quality possible where the output file does not exceeds 800MB ?

it's million ways to do that

maybe one of easy way, you can use free Avidemux

http://fixounet.free.fr/avidemux/download.html

open video in avidemux

set like you see on picture (everything else can be by default)

and click on Save and wait for program to finish encoding

actually this 800MB is just for video, in this film mp3@128kbps CBR will take about ~131MB so if you need final file size 800MB you need set target video size to ~669MB

You have a DVD player? Maybe you aught to be burning this to a DVD. Try this out:

STEP 1: Get some blank DVD -R's of course.

STEP 2: Download ConvertXtoDVD.

STEP 3: Burn the file to disc.
