1. Try to install your version of Diskeeper on a virtual os like a win7 on a virtualbox.

If it has the same error then your copy might be the problem and not some old auditing registry data/file junk left from previously uninstalled copy

Tried to install on Virtual Box running Win7. Installs successfully. Tried same installer on my gf's PC. Installed AND cracked successfully. Maybe she's just lucky??? :dunno: I don't think the installer is the problem. I downloaded it from official site.

2. Try to run a new trial version copy and see if it will install in your system.

If it does install and ran with no problem then uninstall it using its own uninstaller, reboot and try to install your copy of diskeeper.

See if it will still suffer the same error.

Redownloaded a new trial. Same problem on my system. No problem on hers and the Virtual OS.

3. Try this Microsoft Installation Fix it utility in addition to mara's suggestion. I don't know if they were the same.

Program is not listed. Neither for install or uninstall. No errors found. :(

If everything fails try to stop and take a rest. This  or this :pizza: or this :stereo: or this

It might be you overworked yourself. :showoff:

I usually do this and when I got back things where much clearer to me. 8) :pos:

*sighs* I believe I do need a rest. Thank you for your suggestions.

Try with this tool. If Diskeeper is not on the list, select Not Listed, then you will be prompted to enter product code, something like that, you can try to find out which is it, by using ORCA tool, open MSI installer of Diskeeper and search for it.

No keys have been found for diskeeper. Wow I'm confused now...

... None of the suggestions there work or are relevant to this problem... Guess I'm stuck.

Looks like time for a system restore then :(

But yeah, only after a you sleep on it or something. Always happens to me - can't get something done for hours on end and then the next morning or the day after when you get at it - suddenly everything seems to fall in place. :P

When this happens to me I can never seem to get sleep and even if I do - find myself waking up in the middle of the night with the solution (something ridiculously simple.)

Desperate move! Throw anything that might be of help. lol! :D
1. Try to uninstall and reinstall .Net 4.0
2. Try to delete the Diskeeper installation directory if it exists.
3. (Not from that page below. my personal opinion) Enable and start service one by one and try to install between each change of service status, In addition to calguyhunk suggestion regarding services.
Taken from this page
F. INSTALLING DISKEEPER
========================
Note: Diskeeper requires that you have .Net 4.0 Client or Full edition installed on the target
machine in order to run. If you do not already have .Net 4.0 installed on the target machine,
it will automatically download and install when you start the Diskeeper installation.
G. UNINSTALLING DISKEEPER
==========================
To uninstall Diskeeper, you must be logged into an account that is a member
of the Administrators group.
Follow these steps to completely remove and uninstall Diskeeper from your
computer. Note that the controls may have slightly different names, depending
on your version of Windows:
1. From Control Panel, double click "Add/Remove Programs".
2. Highlight the Diskeeper entry.
3. Click Remove. This removes the Diskeeper program files from your computer.
In most cases, the Diskeeper installation directory will not be removed.
4. During the uninstall process, the Windows Disk Defragmenter is restored to
the state it was in before Diskeeper was installed.
5. Manually delete the Diskeeper installation directory if it exists.
Note: you will need to reboot your system after uninstalling Diskeeper 12.

I read somewhere that sysem "event logger" can cause problems... make sure its not disabled. diskeeper needs it enabled.

I'm not sure what the above cons or pros are - it may not be the cause of your error.

  • use blackvipers to set all services back to default? - just another stab in the dark... not saying it will fix it.
  • run SFC /SCANNOW
  • Try to install in safemode

Edit

if the second account is affected then its gotta be something to do with bios?

Try Sonar suggestions before mine.

At least we narrow down the problem. We now know that it's just the host/os that is affected by this problem.

The question now is how did diskeeper installation knows that you haven't rebooted after you previously uninstalled it.

Maybe, it's a registry entry on one of clsid entry as you and others have pointed out.

Maybe, it's a file that was shoved cunningly somewhere.

I would considered trying again Peet's and majormalfunction's suggestion regarding File/Registry monitors.

If monitoring the host does not bring any luck then try it under another os under virtualbox, install diskeeper and monitor it while uninstalling.

This is just a suggestion if you still do not want to reinstall or revert your host os to a new or working state as calguyhunk suggested.

I think that if you reinstall or revert your system before you had installed diskeeper it will removed this problem.

This is the sign that you're workaholic too. hehe! I'm actually like that. We're like twins. Cheers!

I tried to stop too but just like you stated the moment I went to bed *poof* new stuff came into my head.

I feel extremely stupid right now...

As long as that file exists the error will keep showing. All user accounts will share the same C: drive. The file monitor thing is truly a blessing! Advanced users like myself need those kinda tools. Problem solved. :showoff:

I must admit one thing - the advice that was proffered here by all was simply awesome - each one innovative in it's own right. Diskeeper may/may not be cracked, but - be damn sure nobody on this Board will be having anymore Diskeeper malfunctions after going through this thread

Yes, I did a full edit and marked it as solved already. I also posted the solution as a quote so other users with the same bug can solve the problem quickly. Additional tags added to make the solution easier to find in a search engine..
