Supremo Phantom
Hi,I have been using Win 7 Ultimate with SP1 for over a year now and am pretty happy with the performance as well. There is just too much talk about Win 8 and both good and bad reviews about this OS.I would like to know from all who have tasted both Win 7 and Win 8.. is it really worth the upgrade.formatting and reinstalling everything is going to easily take a couple of days. is there any real advantage as compared to Win 7 that can make a whole lot of difference in my normal working.I have the Win 8 setup downloaded, but I mean, honestly, is Win 8 really better than Win 7. should I invest the time to format and reinstall it all? november_ra1n
Supremo Phantom@ you will bring all W8 haters here soon, If i was you i would not listen to anyone but try it yourself on Wmware or other partition of your hard disk.W8 blazingly fast even faster on boot time. A part from start menu it look like windows 7 by the way you can always install 3th party software if you want start menu.Performance base i don't know why people complaining that it is buggy well it is as same as buggy as Windows 7 not more. Stability will be improve as more Windows Update gets into it. That is all i can say i am using Windows 8 start from the first day i wont be going back w7I forgot to tell you i had Windows Update problem as some other people does but after fresh install all fine now.If you have enough space in your Hard Drive why dont you create Dual Boot then you can use both Windows 7 and 8! 0veR
I'm not hatter but i can tell you Windows 8 is shit!I had it for 2 weeks and i didnt like it at all!I went back to Windows 7 and i'm never going back to Windows 8 EVER!Just search on Google for reasons not upgrading to Windows 8. If you cool with that then upgrade to Windows 8!
rach
Win 8 feel faster than Win7. first time feel annoying with the start menu and there's no start button. now I'm getting used to this though without start button. I like how they used ribbon at file explorer. theres no aero glass on window, just on taskbar. I have no issue about compatibility. well thats my point of view. the choice still up to you. :)
oldtrees2020
It is ok But Not so in repair;doesn't work with you like windows 7. a royal pain in that area
Marik
The only way you're gonna tell if you like it or not is to use it. Some say it's faster and maybe it is but are you prepared to spend up to an entire day or maybe more on reinstalling every single app and putting everything together in place just so you can see if you like it or not? Well, if you're not the lazy type then go right ahead and jump ship. M$ made the mistake of bringing an OS made for tables and mobile phones to a desktop, hence why most of us hate it so much...oh yeah, there's also the kill switch that let's them delete your files whenever they feel like it as long as your pc is connected to the internet but no need to worry as they haven't made any moves yet. Bottom line, only you can decide weather you like it or not, so give it a go and if it pisses you off, switch back or simply go to a friend who already has it on his pc and spend a few hours to try it out and see if it's to your liking. drmembrax
Tried Server 2012 (dreamspark license) converted to workstation before official release : shit.Tried later Windows 8 Pro : loved it and using it daily.Boots faster, no driver problems.Metro start screen is boring but you can kill it with "classic shell" program.Network speed is better for me (PC <-> NAS) without tuning.Pause/resume file operations is great.the new task manager is very useful. And never had any compatibility issue.I installed once a driver that crashed my install. Simple reboot, reverted to previous savestate, and 5 min later worked as if nothing happened !Well that's not a lot of changes, but finally i like it ! psyko666
Been using Windows 8 Pro x64 with Media Center since january and I really like it a lot.. faster booting and no problems with drivers what so ever...All that shitty crap about a Start Menu, I don't miss it at all, I just start typing in Metro when I need it and it pops up there in front of me... ^_^Also I think that everything feels smoother, it's a tweaked Windows 7 imo... Marik
@Marik A kill-switch? I find it hard to believe in that. Any proof? Cheers ;) u a win8 user? u telling me you upgraded to an os before learning everything there is to know about it? le lel :bag: I couldn't find the article I wanted from nov since I can't recall what i typed in google but there are tons of article about this move. Yes, if deemed 'illegal' (pirated) or 'a threat' (as they see fit) to your pc, M$ can remote delete whatever files they want from your pc without your approval as long as it's connected to the internet. They claim that they'll only use this feature to remove pirated win8 store apps but what tool do you think resets automatic updates to enabled from time to time? here's one of the article http://vigilantcitizen.com/latestnews/windows-8-will-have-a-kill-switch/ and another one http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2400985,00.asp

Administrator DKT27 Posted January 10, 2013 Administrator Share Posted January 10, 2013 Yes. However, be ready to take some pain.Pros:Super fast (not only boot, but everything).Secure.Somethings are newer and better. Some backend things are fixed, the problems that Windows 7 used to have.Softwares too run better in Windows 8.Cons:Metro. It's adjustable to, but I do not approve of this shitty thing.Buggy. Some things are made / ignored like step-brotherly treatment. Not aimed at desktops.Double headed take on everything, metro and desktop mixed together needs things to be done twice or some normal things open in metro instead of standard. The OS needs to be tweaked more than previous Windows OSs. Common users/noobs would have hard time tweaking / adjusting. And yes, StartIsBack OR Start8 is the way to go. :)Overall, yes, good OS with some problems and limitations. jofre
Supremo Phantom :You may upgrade and after validation, backup to another partition on your hard disc or to a DVD and let it stay there till the day people may start saying that is better after Microsoft updates. That`s what I am doing now, waiting for better days... :D

If you find, its junk or too buggy, let alone until M$ release update and make it more stable then you still using loved one (W7). nuthut
The only thing I have seen wrong (on a friends laptop) is that in Windows 8 the external monitor (DB15) will not work in Windows 8 but it does on Windows 7.Interesting side note: If the monitor is attached and on when the laptop boots up, the BIOS will allow the external monitor to act as a mirrored display
Supremo Phantom
thanks for all the suggestions guys.. i guess i will stick with Win 7 on the main machine for now, and try win 8 in a VM first for a few days. if it gives me a feel good factor, i can give it a shot otherwise ... like they say, if it ain't broken, don't fix it.
