As you can see, both Kaspersky and Bitdefender rated ADVANCED in one test and ADVANCED+ in all of the others. The AV-Comparatives team follows this rule in the event of a tie: "if there are two or more products with equal marks, the award goes to the product which has not previously received it." Since Kaspersky took the award last year, Bitdefender is this year's winner.

Anyone doubting the result, please go though the full PDF or though all the tests done year 2012. I for one trust AV-Comparatives to be non-biased when it comes to result time. And BitDefender, except performance test, has topped in all the tests.

Also a small note:

As we give only one Product of the Year Award, we apply the following rule: if there are two or more products with equal marks, the award goes to the product which has not previously received it. The other high-scoring product(s) will be given the Top Rated Award. This means that in the event of two products achieving the same results, the product that has not already won the award will receive it. This year we have precisely this situation: both Kaspersky Lab’s and Bitdefender’s products were equally good, and both worthy of the Product of the Year award. Bitdefender has not won the award before (and also achieved slightly higher scores in the Real-World Protection Test). Consequently, the 2012 Product of the Year award goes to:
Bitdefender

Everyone interested, should read the full PDF, as always, they offer a lot of info. :)

Wish comodo would participate, like to see their results, and get better recognition for cis

They did, couple of years ago. But cried like a baby when they got low marks. Since then, Comodo and AV-C are on war, unlikely to come to any conclusions. ;)

Without doubt Bitdefender is best antivirus ever :win:, it's bloatware , too heavy (Not bloatware at all , i tried it and i i'm very very satisfied , it's very fast) :)

I have it and it is the best antivirus you will ever use, and It's not heavy. Never was. In task manager it takes around 16.000k. Silent but deadly

Try it you won't be disappointed.

I agree with Lyon275. Bitdefender is bloatware and slows your system to a drag. And I have found when I had it on I could run SAS PRO and Malware Bytes and Emisoft Emergency Disk and find mal-ware.

I'm using BitDefender 2013 and I'm very happy with it. It's very light and effective. :)

Only problem is it's Autoscan (random, free time, Quick Scan), which slows system down sometimes while I'm using it, hence, I've disabled it.

I thought you used Eset DKT27 , how do you find Bitdefender compared with Kaspersky?

Yes, I used ESET, but since v5's gave continues CPU spikes to me, which I later believed was caused by me setting ESET HIPS at Automatic mode.

Anyway, since then, I've tried MSE (third-fourth time now), Avast, Kaspersky IS 2012, Symantec Endpoint Security and Panda Cloud AV.

MSE sucks as it doesn't provide sufficient protection and can be disabled by any malware just by modifying some files in System32.

Avast slows down execution and usage of softwares.

Kaspersky has bad UI, which requires easy functions to be done via going deeper in settings. Settings are messed up too. Like, if you want it's firewall to ask you things before allowing/denying, you have to change 10-15 settings to accomplish that. KIS also slowed down my PC overall. Finally, I left it as it had a really really bad memory leak on my PC, was taking 900MB RAM again and again. It's protection has been great though.

Symantec, well, I've decided I wont try any Symantec products anymore. This thing used to take 5 mins to scan single file it found or was executed by me. In the mean time, slowing my system and HDD to nothing, just hanging. It didn't even allow whitelisting apps from it's "virus detected" window. I don't care if it's good or it protects me, I want my system to be fast.

I moved away from Panda in two days, only because I felt it might not be able to protect me enough, and had very less options. I will be neutral here, nor good nor bad.

And finally, Bitdenfender. It's good enough. It slows down the startup only a bit and it's Autoscan (scheduled quick scan) slows down the HDD. Other than that, it looks fast to me.

So far, after leaving ESET, Bitdefender is the only AV I am little happy to use. It's on par on protection with Kaspersky, but I'll give more marks to it for slightly better UI and less system slowdowner.

Having said, if ESET 6 releases, I'll switch back to it. :)

Thanks , maybe I'll give it a try , I remember that was my first AV on my first computer a couple of years back.

There is always a first time!

I'm looking forward this Eset V6 , I don't understand why they take so much time each time they make a new version :wtf:

I use Advanced SystemCare Ultimate 6(trying it as of now) Since they are using Bitdefender Internet Security 2013 engine and incorporates it with their own Iobit antimalware engine at the same time it optimize my PC(so I have never experienced any slowdown using this product) . Although my Security Center told me that it does nat have any anti spyware. What do you guys think?

I would agree with everyone who Said that Bitdefender Internet Security 2013 is light on the system except when it is doing something in the background. Especially when it is updating. It likes to do that A LOT! I am running it on a little netbook 1 gig of RAM, Win7 SP1 and it runs fine. It is probably the busiest AV I have ever seen. I had NIS 2013 on my Machine for about 3 months. I am not a big fan of Norton but it seemed as light as ESET Smart Security 5 & 6 to me.

That is such a stupid rule, it should go to the one that is better, not the one that didn't "win" the year before!

Read the whole PDF again. That's not the only reason. In one single test, BD scored slightly higher than Kaspersky, hence, it was selected.
