I'd vote for ESET. Never let me down in the 3 years I've used it in and out. :) (And Nsane award for the best AV of 2012 goes to: ESET! :win: :P :D)

EDIT: And I've used a variety of them in the years. Especially this year. So defenately ESET. Light on resources and great at protection. :)

Bitdefender won multiple awards but it's still a resource hog and has limited features to tinker with. KASPERSKY deserves the crown.

I have to disagree with that :)

I recently made a clean install of my Windows, before doing that I have tested multiple security suites on it. After all i can only say i don't get the tests of the av-comparatives guys :)

The first place in performance tests, Webroot, it slows down my computer so much that i have to say how the f** can this product get the first place?I tested Bitdefender, Kaspersky, Avast and Webroot.

Bitdefender was definitly the 1st place for me in system performance. I guess it is better optimized for newer system with SSDs in it. Nothing has changed in the Boot time for me, both with and without Bitdefender it takes 9 Secs until i am on the metro screen. Everything starts fast as always, even unsigned apps start immediately.

I am sure it is gonna be Bitdefener this year :)

i'm sure bitdefender will topple the others also. good for u. find it annoying that bitdefender cant run if Malwarebytes is installed. it prompts u to uninstall. Kaspersky and others dont. as i said before, bitdefender lacks many features for u to adjust security.

How is the performance without SSD? I'm thinking of trying on Internet Security 2013, and does the parental control feature work with your TR?

I can't tell how the performance without SSD is, I only tested it on the main system :) The parental control feature is a part of the software so it should be no problem with the TR.

I'll try it out then. I inquired about the parental control since I tried out BitDefender a few months back and it had the controls online and kept asking for key to enable and control the settings. I hope they've changed that and its included in the program locally.

Quite a few programs ask you to uninstal MBAM. Instal it again after you're done and it usually works fine.

I tried Bitdefender on an XP machine, well 2 machines. Turned them on 3 days later and the computers were screwed, had to uninstal Bitdefender to get them to work.

I also bought licenses for BitD, never used them. A year ish later I got emails saying my protection was about to run out :o

Then there's the breaking of programs because Bit decided to delete files without mentioning it  Great stuff. Do that to Windows files and a fresh instal is needed.

Av of the year my arse

Hate to say it but Bitdefender.

Not my AV of choice but as many have said it has performed well in most of the AV tests this year.

Webroot has a colossal bug in XP where the heuristics engine bogs down the system for minutes (i counted 12 on my machine) before a prompt occurs. As Webroot doesn't care for XP at all, they just ignore the problem and numerous user prompts as well.

As to the question at hand - going by the tests: Bitdefender.

Going by heart - Emsisoft. It has BD data in it anyways, so it simply can't be bad.

I think it will be BitDefender just because it is FULL of Do Dads and the Reviewers Seem to like that. I would imagine that Kaspersky is actually better. In saying that I have NIS 2013 on my little Netbook. Just because it is light on my system. My 2 Cents worth.
