Olexijl
Hi, Just wanna suggest to put a link in every fp software entry to the required topic for discussion on News&Updates. For example TuneUp Utilities 2013 13.0.3000.138: http://www.nsanedown.com/?request=10192743 should have a link to the discussion topic: http://www.nsaneforums.com/topic/151815-tuneup-utilities-2013-1303000138/ And this should be for every fp entry. If new version comes out, the old fp entry for the soft got updated anyway to show the new build nr. So why not to make a link to the discussion topic located in News&Updates? Just wanna have my opinion shown.
Marik
wouldn't it be better to have a universal topic made in the soft updates section?if I didn't misunderstood, the method above implies a link be made to the news/updates section listing for the respective appso instead of constantly changing the link, wouldn't it be better to have just one link/topic per app? jalaffa
For some apps we have a link to a fixed forum topic in the listing. Ad-Muncher comes to mind. Nero Lite mara also. For Eset products too. That works pretty well.I find Olexijl suggestion interesting. Me myself do prefer reading the actual forum topic when reading&posting a frontpage posting thread (and not via the comments section on FP). It would be a problem or nuisance if we would need to edit that link manually to forum topic after each updated front page posting though. Not sure if it could be done automatically. shought
That would require quite some changes in the way we work though (@Marik).I think it's a good idea, but a bit 'difficult' in the implementation. I'm thinking of a way to automate this in some way...We already have an application which 'semi-automatically' updates the frontpage, after a listing is updated. This application might be the most reliable way to store the combination of application id and news id (which could then be used to update the application download page).I'll add it to my to-do ;)
Marik
That would require quite some changes in the way we work though (@Marik). I think it's a good idea, but a bit 'difficult' in the implementation. I'm thinking of a way to automate this in some way...no, not really > keep things as they are now > make a thread in the soft updates section for said fp entry > this is will ground zero for all discussions regarding respective app > add a discussion link to the fp entry for respective app > update title for said app in the soft update section to reflect the current version/build nr and that's pretty much it....users will go about posting soft updates in the soft updates section, we'll fp it like we always do AND if they wanna talk about on that fp'ed topic let them, and if they wanna talk about it in the thread in the soft update section, that's fine as well or we can just make it so that when we post the update, users who want to comment will get redirected to that app's respective thread in the soft update section
shought
Having two places where discussion can take place isn't the way I'd like to see things go forward.I'll think of something else. I'll probably incorporate some kind of script in the frontpage caching system which will take care of it.When the code pulls the news item to have it on the frontpage we have the download id (in the post content) and the news id (the title of the topic). Then I'll simply issue a write query updating the download topic's content with a link to the news topic (at the bottom). When the link is already present it will simply be updated, when it's not it will be added. This will require zero effort (on everyone else's part aside from mine) and offer 100% of the requested functionality :)
jalaffa
I like Marik's take on this as well! We would need to have a dedicated front page section in software updates for this I feel. It sounds like less work also (the actually fixed forum link could simply link to the fixed nsanedown listing as for updates on current version) Edit: Having two places where discussion can take place isn't the way I'd like to see things go forward.Good point.
