jimbojet2011
Howdy SONE ForeverThere aint no such thing as best av or isJust keep away from bad sites is the best first step you can do.If you mean a good suite and above all for free:I use zonealarm firewall with AV ( with the AV engine of kaspersky ) its a good and effective suite.Thats my opinion but there are several Free suites and a very good 1 of them is:http://www.comodo.com/ is still version 5 ( i'm waiting for the 6 version ( is now in Beta stage )In your technical specifics I do not see your memory ( but with your spec I think its enough ) to handle most of the suites.Good luck with your choiceJJ

rudrax
Webroot SecureAnywhere Why?Lightweight: 713 KB onlyCloud based antivirus: See how it worksExtremely low on system resources: You don't even feel that you have an antivirus installed in your systemAlso have a look at this
Administrator DKT27 Posted December 9, 2012 Administrator Share Posted December 9, 2012 For light system resources, you can try ESET or Comodo IS or Webroot Secureanywhere. ESET has better AV, Comodo has better firewall and Webroot can be used with other AVs if wanted.Don't try Kaspersky if you want a light solution, it's great in protection but it's not light enough. dcs18
@ exodiusJust execute a search and brush up on your reading with the experience that members have recounted - then, after rating & ranking the top 3, try them extensively over a protracted period of time to answer yourself. 8)BTW, I'm using ESET EAV (which is the best for me) and could've recommended it to you, but - that would be silly how can what is good for me presumed to be good for your tastes & priorities? However, if you're really interested in personal growth in the domain of computing - forget all about suites (except for the tried-and-tested KIS, all the rest are bird-shit.) If you'd like to get onto the next level - employ standalone applications (just an heads-up.) ;)
majithia23
@exodius When you talk about Internet "security" , AV is not what you should just be installing ! Security encompasses not just an Anti malware set up but a whole lot of many other things ... ;) Read about Layered Security and learn what Internet Security really actually means . Sticking with the topic header , i highly recommend what rudrax has already mentioned -- Webroot Cloud AV . Its Ultra Light .. ;) Going with the commercial more popular choices , the only one worth recommending is - ESET . End of choices , if "Lightness" is the only criteria . Gabben
Norton Internet Security 2013Why?1. Very light on system2. Great protection3. You can get a genuine 180 day key from Norton unlimited topic or use the trial reset wich also gives 180day, so it's absouletly free, no blacklisted crack or keyKaspersky is also very good, the 2013 version is lighter than the previous versions. If you know how to block or ad programs in the firewall you can Use Zonealarm. Comodo is a good option ( but AV isnt good so you can use the firewall and combine it with Avast or Avira or Panda There'll all free and you don't need support ( they do the work for you ) Laterrrrrrrr

anuseems
Experimentally I have just removed NAV 2013 enabled Windows defender alongwith MBAM pro ( realtime ). Firewall being outpost pro fully configured. My observations in 24 hrs:1. System response time has improved ( after full system scan with both, respecrively ).2. MSE caught a missed virus in blackberry keygen.3. Psychologically hard to digest that system is without Norton but since defender / MSE is hardcoded in windows 8 gives it an edge over others. speedpedal
Free Avast and Free Comodo Firewall will cover you nicely, Plus Firefox wit all its newest protection. The above member suggested not going to any of the " Baddy Sites" is good advice, however even legitimate sites are getting hit more and more each day. You can pick up some nasty viruses on a lot of the smaller sites; they can't protect you as well as the big guys.
