Sonar
Ive read a topic somewhere on here with someone mentioning to turn off HIPS.1. Does turning off HIPS have a defect In anyway, Antivirus and everything still works?2. isit as simple as going into the setup and unticking 1 box? which grays out self defense. dcs18
I disable HIPS, myself as the one built into ESET is extremely low-end and lacks in granularity (you might yet find others in love with it.) :( 1. Does turning off HIPS have a defect In anyway, Antivirus and everything still works? Not for me - I've got COMODO backing me and I use EAV, yet - don't see why other modules should stop functioning. 2. isit as simple as going into the setup and unticking 1 box? which grays out self defense.Nope, Self-defense and HIPS are two different things - un-tick HIPS and take a reboot to see the effect kick in. dcs18
Yeah, the HIPS in ESET is just marginally better than the UAC. I mean if one desires to grow - competency wise then, it's advisable to employ a full-fledged HIPS like the one in COMODO. :showoff:Of course, for those who are content with low-end stuff the ESET HIPS is all that's required. <_<

Firewall = custom Defence+ = safemode sandbox = off I disable UAC 99% (that's annoying). Will try hips off as I don't use that part of eset. fumia
i always turn off ESET HIPS , why? because it's realllly lower the RAM Consumption :D and for HIPS it's better Comodo or Malware Defender..
dcs18
@ SonarYou've got most things going right for you. :)My only concern is that 2 HIPS are enabled, together - doing the same chore (and might most probably, conflict with each other - in future.) Disabling one of them would make it perfect for you. ;)
Administrator DKT27 Posted December 6, 2012 Administrator Share Posted December 6, 2012 ESET's HIPS is buggy. I left ESET because of CPU spikes. Only find out that it might be because it's HIPS was set to automatic. Plus, it's protection might not be enough.
broascadilie
ESET = Fail ! In many AV tests.I used it a couple of times with no succes.Reasons ? : CPU spikes,''low quality'' virus definitions, poor protection.I strongly recommend u to give up on ESET and choose another vendor. I wont give up on eset, hopefully when we see number 6 they will have fixed alot more bugs for a stable anti virus.

Knightmare
Really? I haven't noticed any of these happenings. Then again, I use Process Lasso so everything stays pretty stable.

Like most other software, the default settings of ESET are totally off the mark and need to be comprehensively configured - it's comparatively a much better offering than many other AntiVirus systems.
