Guide or help for NOD32 Update Viewer ?!?

I've got a strange thing here that I'm too dumb to figure out & hope somebody will help me to sort it out.

We've got 4 PCs, all running XP, all have NOD32 AV, but 2 of them (the kids) had to be stopped from internet access for family reasons.

So being as I've get (bought) NOD32 updates on mine and the other one, I'd like to share that and I see there's ways to do it, but I haven't managed to make it work.

I got the 'ULISESS SEGURIDAD 10.1.0' from here, and see inside it that there's 'Generador', 'MiNODServer', 'NOD32 Update Viewer', TNOD which seems to have a server option, and maybe others that I don't understand.

I also found a PHP script at SourceForge that claims to make a mirror of the updates, but that is way beyond me.

Searched here hoping to find some kind of tutorial for sharing updates or making a mirror via LAN or whatever and didn't find any.

Please...somebody...help this old dummy ?!?

Thanks.

Just copy the updated Nod32 files from C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\ESET\ESET NOD32 Antivirus\Updfiles to the computers without internet and in the same folder.

Thanks Gabben.

What I meant was to get those 2 PCs to look at a shared folder over the LAN in the house and let them somehow grab their own updates automatically.

I bet you've seen how touchy teenagers can be, yes ?

Staying out of their spaces and away from their PCs is best for everybody...

If I have to go in to set it up once and maybe to check it to be sure the AV shows green, that's enough really.

The things say this can be done.

I've carefully read and re-read the info about the things I named in the OP.

They say they can make a local folder with the updates in it, in some ways, which can be shared.

And I also see that NOD32 AV can use a folder as it's 'server' or source...

So I'm asking if there is some kind of help so that the steps to do that are explained better & simpler than the quickie info with each program mentioned above.

Color me surprised; could I be the only man here that wants to share updates between different PCs w/o paying more ?!?

BTW, I was using TNOD for quite a long time, but lately it stopped working and their site hasn't shown a new one since July, so I gave in and paid for it for the 1st time ever.

Not my preference, but it'd gone a long time with no updates so it seemed like the best idea.

There's GOT to be an easy enough way to make a couple of other PCs share my updates; I can't believe nobody's done this...the server/mirror tools are posted here after all ?!?

I can't believe nobody's done this...

Just a supposition - guess you're aware that to deploy Virus signature database across a network, one prima facie needs to run the Business Edition of ESET. ;)

Ummm, OK, but:

Just a supposition - guess you're aware that to deploy Virus signature database across a network, one prima facie needs to run the Business Edition of ESET.

Having read through as much of these things as I can understand - 'ULISESS SEGURIDAD 10.1.0' (gotten from here) contains tools that seem to say they do what I'm after=>

'Generador', 'MiNODServer', 'NOD32 Update Viewer', as well as TNOD which seems to have a server option.

The problem I'd like help with is how to make & use those so as to have a local update server or mirror.

Ordinary NOD32 (3.0.695.0) allows one to specify a local server rather than the online one quite easily.

I have used this ability when I've used the 'offline updates' when TNod wasn't working.

(Thanks to Anuraag it now works again !!!)

The missing trick (for me) is how exactly to create the local mirror of the update files for it to use ???

In the NOD fix thread where I found the collection of tools, there are various tutorials for some of the tools, but none for the mirror/server ones.

Thanks.

  • 4 weeks later...

I use NOD32 Update Viewer. It download the required files and put them in some folder.

Then I serve that folder using my web server to my local network.

Thank You DiGiBoY !!!

The big question stopping me is that I don't know how to set-up the NOD32 Update Viewer - especially since I'd like to have it do this every couple of days automatically, if that is possible ??

I use NOD32 Update Viewer. It download the required files and put them in some folder.

Then I serve that folder using my web server to my local network.

Once the files are in a folder the rest will be quite easy to use via the LAN.

Thanks.

My question is ironic, but your license is original?
If not, then you'll have to switch to another, you can also use TNod or MiNODLogin for to generate a new and applies to your computer that are in offline mode.

Guess what ?!?

Much to my surprise, by searching with an outside search engine for "NOD32 Update Viewer" guide, I was able to find an older post with exactly the info I was seeking, here:

http://www.nsaneforums.com/topic/35345-eset-offline-update-definitions/

What amazes me is that I wasted a LOT of time using the forum search function before I posted my query, and found lots & lots of info, but none of it was this...and 2 minutes from outside netted it without fail...amazing.

Now to give it a spin...

OK, tried following the guide I put the link to, and it doesn't work that way for v3.0.695.

I'm guessing that the Update Viewer as well as the AV have changed alot since that info was posted.

Here's the rundown of how it went:

I tried to use NOD32 Update Viewer 6.

Updates have been working fine on my PC.
I have a reg. for 3 PCs.
Mine is online, but the other 2 cannot be.

I wanted to make a mirror for the updates and use the LAN for the other 2 to get their updates from a folder as described in my OP. From what I've seen & read that should be easy using the Update Viewer program...

I could get it to log in using my credentials and it downloads files to the folder if I tell it to get an update manually.
(It was set to do it every 6 hours, but it did not do it automatically.)

It changed the server settings on my PC to that local folder, but NOD v3 would not use the files it put there and said 'error downloading files'.

I tried to use that drive & folder mapped as a local drive at another (offline) PC and it gave the same error message.

I'm hoping to get some help from DiGiBoY or anyone here who has used this so that it works on 1 PC and the other 2 can get their updates via the LAN.

Thank you.
