Wazzbler
Hi All!,I am now 46 years old, have worked with, used, abused, fixed, smashed, crashed and broken more computers since the 1990's than many other peopleMy first computer put me waaaay up there above the anyone else around, because I had a ONE SPEED Soundblaster CD rom! This was back in the day when Floppy drives were the size of a small magazine, and the Dead Sea was still only very sick!!My point is, that these debates really give me a huge laugh, with one supporter flaming the other, and all kinds of emotions getting thrown into the fray. Words that I have never heard before like Kasperscrap, and Eshit bounce around from one end to the other. At the end of the day, I truly believe that the choice is for the individual to make.I am not going to brag on any brand, or slag off any either, but If peop leare comfortable feeling they are protected by whatever AV they use, then so be it.What I have discovered, is that I am extremely happy/secure with my choice of AV, and the test has proven itself on many occassions when soeone brings a flash drive or camera from their "perfectly Protected" machine, and my AV immediately find at least 5 trojans, viruses, and other horrors that their "top selling, beat 'em all" AV didn't even see!I then run a simple programme like DR WEB portable or McAffee Stinger on their Impenetrable, safe as houses "OH yeah I have the best AV blah, blah " and find over 1000 various Nasties on their PC that their AV did not even detect! My suggestion is to speak to several people who work on computers, fix and "disinfect virus filled ones, and NOT the people selling anti virus software. Then see if the clims work for you. There are numerous free testing sites and programmes to see firsthand how good (or bad) your choice is.With regards to all - be safe and put a condom on before putting your stick into any old hole! With regards to all - be safe and put a condom on before putting your stick into any old hole! and your choice of anti virus is? now im curious At the risk of being shot, flamed, gutted and castrated by other people, my personal prefernce is ESET Smart Security v5.2.9.1. In MY opinioin, it has proven itself, especially in light of the flash drives I have received from people running Trend Micro, Microsoft AV, etc. I fairness to other AV programmes, I have to state that I haven't had a flash drive from anyone using Kaspersky, so will have to reserve judgement on it. The last time I tested various AV programmes (albeit a year or two ago) I found them too invasive, or slowed my system down too much. Just to emphasise, Eset give ME a sense of security, which is what all these programmes are supposed to do, and I am more than ready to admit that no matter what AV you decide to use, anyone may have a "nastie" on their computer and be blissfully unaware of it becuae their faith in the product they chose makes them believe that they are clean. This is the point I was trying to make: People might be infected, and be completely unaware of the fact because their AV doesn't even see the virus, trojan or whatever. As a rather cynical person, I still occasionally run a seperate (usually portable) version of Dr. WEB or other Anti Malware programme just to be sure! nishad1982
@Wazzbler:Definitely ESET is good. It is a very good choice for a safe player. But it won't save you from serious malware attack. People use ESET only because it has very low impact on system resources.Keeping the issue of resources in mind I would suggest to try Symantec Norton (2012/2013 versions). Norton will give you more security with the same amount of resources.Personally I think that the companies selling Security Products exaggerate about computer threats. You need not put all your resources for security. You need not buy/use the top product. Compromise your security a bit, save your resources and enjoy your computing.
